Great Alpine Road in Summer
« on: September 22, 2015, 10:35:18 PM »
G'day,

myself and the family want to travel from Wangarratta down to Lakes Entrance late December. We have a Prado 150 series and will be towing our new Jayco Swan Outback. Having trouble finding parks with places left (powered sites). Any members travelled this before and have any knowledge of good spots to stay? Plan on doing it over 4-5 days.

cheers,

Nathan

You could try Omeo. It has a caravan park.

Omeo caravan park looks nice, no online booking though so will give them a call in the morning.

Also heading back to SA/NT along the coast - doing my head in trying to find somewhere near Wilsons Promontory. All either full or require minimum stays. $450 for a powered site for five nights seems a bit steep. Supply and demand I guess

Yep, good luck, most of that area is booked out a year in advance and also has a high % of people who book the same site year after year.

You could try here http://cpcp.com.au/

There are plenty of parks before you climb the mountain, in Bright, Porepunkah and around that area. It's not such a long drive from there to Lakes anyway, but it would be a shame not to spend some time up the top that time of year. There's a great free camp before Omeo but no power of course.

Also great unpowered camp spots along the Barry Way next to the snowy river.  Magnificent in summer.
