"My guess is it will be a waste of $$$ unless you are doing be remote sand driving and or don't have a lot of space for spares, but I could be totally wrong"

I think you are on the money here. And based on my experience, albeit limited, I would not be put off getting a replacement camper simply because the tug & the CT wheels didn't match.

Having said that, IF there were 2 campers that excited me and one had wheels that matched my tow vehicle, then that one may just win the biscuits. If I could put it that way.

Sand - Thanks to my trip to WA I've now experienced travelling some pretty serious tracks with camper in tow. Probably the Cape Levique sector of the trip (North of Broome) was the most worrying for me. To be honest though the Pajero and Kamper did it pretty easily thanks to advice I'd received about watching tyre pressures. The difference when airing down really was pronounced.

Not all sand is created equal - Anyone here experienced the difference between say the sand of WA's red tracks and the sand of something like Frazer Island?

I ask because when I did my 4x4 training course down Canberra way, they took us to a dry sandy river bed and really hammered home the importance of airing down. They also mentioned that the sand in the creek bed was very coarse & that other sands will be finer. Airing down, momentum and avoiding sharp turns ....... seemed to be the three important factors.

Cheers - Wayne

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

GU Patrol and Challenge Meridian camper.... same size rims, stud pattern and tyres....Interchangeable!
When I took the camper back to get the wheel bearings checked (700 km) I got chatting to the chap from Challenge ... and asked about matching up the wheels and tyres to the same at the 'trol.  When I came to collect the camper it was sporting new rims, new tyres matched to the vehicle.  I'm very impressed with the after sales service of Challenge camper trailers!

As for wheel track width...pretty close if not the same - I must check next time it's somewhere sandy.
