Hi what do people think about kitchens we were thinking of taking standard kitchen out we were looking at xtrail ones seemed like you got more for your money standard one is worth 790 do people think better with stainless sink or plastic container you can remove and throw away water. How do people secure there valuables into there camper trailers ?

Thanks for the weights lj
Rod,

We also thought about ditching the you-beaut kitchen option and doing the same. In the end, we could afford it and in hind sight glad we didn't.  We're ex 'tenters' so we're used to the whole set everything up, but once you have the 'ready to go, just plug in the gas' set up it's hard to look back.

Couple points to consider though is,
1) with the sink and cooker all in one package, make sure there's enough room on the burners for your pots and pans.  Our 3 burner is fine for us, but is a little bit squeezy. Had to get a smaller fry pan to suit. No big deal for us even with 3 kids. It's what you're used to.  The sink is on the small side and we still use a seperate tub for washing. You're not gaining much bench space without the sink/burner set up, as you still need somewhere for the tub anyway.
2) The electric water tap... best thing invented (it's what came before sliced bread!).  The hand pump style tends to slosh and surge (the Camel comes with a 2nd tap -hand pump style, on the rear side next to the gas bottle, so know what they're like).

'Stevo' on here has a similar set up to what you're thinking. Have a search.

As for valuables, they stay hidden in car.

Re the tow ball download, 150kgs sounds a bit on the high side to me??LJ - how do you ever lift that? Ours is around 90kg, fully loaded, and I find that hard enough to push around. We've got the spare on the tailgate though, so no doubt that helps. Not having a go, just wondering how you get on.
Thanks!
Matto :)
Matto,

I'm HUGE!!

Nah just joking. Yeah certainly is on the higher side, and was a shock to see it.  But I reckon after asking around, you'll find a lot of people start getting these weights when they actually weigh them and not just take the manufacturers word for it. Have a mate who's ball weight is aroung the high 200's (told him he's gotta see a doctor about that!).
Lifting is obviously done with the jockey wheel so not an issue, and pushing around only becomes an issue on soft stuff... but then again I suspect any jockey wheel get's tough on the soft stuff.

We got a couple of these for our two burner - scroll down to the gas hob fry pan.

Our 2009 Customline canvas is all aussie made & sewn.

We went for the basic kitchen with checkerplate drop down door up grade.  I prefer the plastic tub and being able to take it out and empty it.

We also don't have any gas at all on our trailer as we use 2 butane stoves or a campfire.  So far we have not needed to use our 2 burner gas cooker (still in the shed where it's been for the last 2 years.) The butane stoves can go anywhere so if I need the extra bench space near the sink I can put them on the stove stand or the table, We just find it's a much more flexible option for us.....but maybe not for everyone...

Mate, tough question... only because I can't think of anything substantial.
About the only thing I never really sussed out before we purchased was the annexe gazebo combo option (fly screen walls and canvas walls). When we were away last w'end we wanted to put up the canvas walls only cos of the wind (gotta cut back of the cans of baked beans we pack LOL) but you can't actually join the corners together because you need the fly screen walls zipped on for it to all join together. It's really not the end of the world it just meant when the wind blew the corners didn't keep things 'snug'.
Having said that it wouldn't have change our decision...

Hi jacko did you need to do much work to the commodore to tow the camel have you installed heavy duty shocks or poly air's into the rear ? Have you got the dropped hitch where is is mounted on a plate instead of on top of the 75 x 50 ? I am assuming your is a off road trailer that model is not in there range anymore.

G'day Rodney, We haven't done anything extra to the car to tow the CT (yes it is a full off road unit that they no longer make, but is similar to the Bushman with a few less features) the tow hitch is mounted on top of the drawbar as normal but we have an extended tow hitch

which helps lift the drawbar up a bit, but with the spare wheel mounted on the drawbar there is a fair amount of weight on the hitch, but we keep the weight in the car to a minimum and don't seem to have any problems, hope that helps, if you have any more Q's ask away!
Cheers Jacko
