Army Trailers being auctioned
« on: October 16, 2011, 12:37:52 PM »
I thought these (there is more than one) might make a great basis for a camper trailer?

While they don't have have MC2 suspension they do look pretty rugged and well made.

Army trailers are pretty solid, I did time in the Army many years ago and know how much of a flogging they can take. You certainly couldn't go wrong use one as a spring board into a new home build camper trailer project.

I'd say go for it........

I was told that the army kept them until they were well and truly rooted.. I looked into one bout 8yrs ago as just a good offroad box trailer, and was told to run away from them...

thoughts?

I can't speak for all trailers the military disposed of, just know a couple of ex diggers who I worked with that have them for personal use.  I know they take a hiding, but they are built for it, end of the day it's still buyer beware, and you do your homework.

If your not confident in Army gear and you don't like RAAF trailers ( if you can get them), the solution is simple. Don't buy one, save up your money and spend a little more on something decent/ new.

This comes down also to 2 simple rules:

1. Buyer beware ( do your homework)
2. You get what you pay for.

From my time in the military  I know they take a hiding and yes some are cared for better than others, which can come down with Corp/ unit they were issued to, but they are built to be a workhorse, and at the end of the day it's still buyer beware, and you do your homework.

A mate from work had picked up 2 from an army auction, both were fine and had recently been serviced prior to auction. he turned one into a mobile water carrier for his farm and the other is for carting stuff around his property... tough as nails... he recently went back to another auction a few mths ago to buy spare tyres but they auctioned them off in lots..... not 4 or 6 . i think they went in lots of 20 he was pretty pissd off plus the price was up there as well so some one is using them ???
