A gas lamp will reduce insects.
Also have a smoky fire with the occasional smoke coming into the annex area will drive them away too.
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

Yellow light is supposed to reduce insects so I'm told, we didn't much of an improvement, it did a little.

Best thing is to have your light away from you as much as you can, reducing the annoyence.

We have found that LEDs seem to reduce them, but haven't had them long enough to really tell, the hot nights of summer should test them.

We have tried many things but tend to go for moving the lights as far away from where we are sitting as practicable!
We are all in the gutter....... But some of us are looking at the stars!!

Have a dummy light away from where you eat. Make sure its the best insect attracting one you can and then you will eat in a little more peace. I used to put the kero lantern away from the table and it was a good decoy

We have a 12V bug zapper. its not actually a Zapper its a UV light with a fan and water dam at the bottom.

one of these http://www.ridabug.com.au/

Seems to work a treat!
