Tourism operators are angry they were not consulted before several major tourism attractions at Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory were shut due to heat.
Parks Australia is closing Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls from November 7.
The areas are usually only closed to tourists after the onset of heavy rain in the wet season.
But last October a 63-year-old German national died at Kakadu after becoming disorientated in the heat.
Sab Lord runs a tour company in Kakadu and says it is no hotter than in other years.
He says the Territory Government just wants to cover itself against liability.
"The only thing I can put it down it is the health and safety issue," Mr Lord said.
"I mean they are so scared ... of someone dying and getting sued."
Mr Lord says there is no need to take such extreme action, especially when the industry can least afford it.
"That has a big impact," he said.
"The tourism industry is very, very slow.
