Cardboard or plastic bottles for milk/juice

Is there any difference in which one travels better over corrugations in a fridge?

I'd never given it much thought to be honest, but a guy at work today swears he only buys cardboard ones because they travel better?  (oh and they squash down more compact when you don't have rubbish facilities nearby).  He reckoned plastic ones vibrate and fracture and bottle tops unscrew (but to me cardboard doesn't seem any more secure?).

And how do you keep them closed, once you have opened them?

I buy milk from Aldi in cartons.  They have a small screw top and when you unscrew that there is a ring pull.  Once you remove the ring pull you just screw back on the cap.  This milk only needs to be refrigerated when opened.  It suits us for work because we are running 3 rotating shifts and the guys can just grab them when they need them and put them in the fridge.

We use longlife milk in cartons, square shape and stack better. The screw on cap works well too. we even carry extra in the food boxes. We have never had one rupture.

Another one here for long life milk in cartons. Family of four we keep 2 x 1L in the fridge and when the first one is finished we pop another in. Saves room for other stuff in the fridge and keeps unrefridgerated unopened for a long time (well enough for a trip). Haven't had an issue with leaking or the lid unscrewing.

We start of with a plastic container and carry long life in the camper, top up when we can with more plastic bottles.

Hmm maybe that's what he meant. I forgot about uht milk, I was thinking of the 600ml cartons of milk you get in the dairy section.

We found that the UHT cartons could not cope with the corrugations of the Tanami and Gibb River Rd.  Fortunately, we'd stored them in plastic cubes in our CT and the spilled milk didn't go far (so not much crying :-).  Conversely, we use old plastic milk bottles to store water (9 x 2 litre bottles fit neatly in a plastic cube) as a back up supply and have never had one leak.  Cheers.

just in case you intend to throw in an esky with ice at some stage... sure you know... the cartons dont like the water,so here the plastic rules! the plastic also seems to chill quicker....  still cant beat unchilled storage of uht though for the extra milk for the trip... short trips though we always use the plastic

This is what happened to us with UHT milk in trailer while travelling the Ghan track a few years ago. Admitedly it wasnt a camper trailer and we no longer keep cans and milk together, but just goes to show how the unexpected can happen when you least expect it. It made meal times interesting, as each can was a lucky dip.
