Any Spearo's ore free divers in MY SWAG

Just wondering if there are any Spearo's in this forum.

We love our camper and love the life at the coast, so turing and camping along the coast is a win win, and give us the possibility to do a bit of spearfishing and put some fresh ocean tucker on the table when we travel.
would be cool to met up whit other Spearos ore free divers.

Been a while since I was in the water, honest reason is I got too big for the wetsuit  :'(

Have a Mares Cyrano pneumatic spear gun and also a woody, do most diving in Port Gregory and Dunsborough areas

The big sambo was taken off the reef at Port Gregory, it bent the 'stainless spring steel' shaft, so I told the Aussie agents for Mares and they did not believe me and wanted the photo, when I sent them a photo they sent me a new shaft no further questions asked 

The fish was 4' 2" long and went right off the scales at the caravan park.

without getting too anal about it, have you ever seen a shark up close & personal in the water when diving ??

I have, they originally scared the crap outa me, then you realize they are just another living animal that is not usually feeding on humans and they are just too well fed anyway to attack when they can clearly see you.

Unlike crocodiles that attack anything at all, because they are a meat eater and if it moves it's a meal for them.

I was diving with my 2 teenage daughters, one chased a small 1.2mt shark for about 10 mins before shooting it 
Now that was an experience that changed my perspective on sharks.

I've been more 'scared' by a bull wallruss who was 'playing' with me like I was a small rag doll, did not harm me

They're a good unit. I dive in very sharky waters, two attacks in Feb this year - one was a mate. I've seen sharks, but none have bothered me with the unit on. I realise others say 'they are just sharks' etc and I do believe them however, they're like any animal - wild - not to be trusted. There has never been a reported attack on an individual wearing a sharkshield, it's the confidence I need to enjoy dives in well known shark areas.

Of course like anything, if you keep your kill on you (or act foolishly in other ways) nothing will stop a shark at feeding time.

Lets leave the sharks And they might leave us!

just dont keep the fish close to you, keep it on the spear away from your body on descent.

About sharks, about 85% of the world population of sharks is gone due to shark fining. so leave the sharks we need them!

I was a fanatical spearo up till a couple of years ago, I was the Australian agent for Rob Allen and Dive Factory gear and had a business called In Deep Spearfishing Equipment. Due to a growth on my left sinus I have been unable to dive for the last couple of years but have supplemented it with surf fishing,

          If your ever in central qld there is good spearing at the loacl reefs i no longer spear as i now live out bush and sold the boat  :'( , but still have friends that dive pretty regular , on the subject of sharks we have seen quite a few in our time spearing never really bothered us seen some pretty big tigers  but if they ever got to friendly we would just exit and move to another spot ,allways had fish on a towline sometimes we would lose fish to sharks but not that often i reckan the shark not to trust is whalers always darting around gave me the heeby jeebies.

Sad to hear u a not diving anymore. are you ever going to get back to the spear ore is it permanent ?

but now i got u! I am on the lookout after a new speargun, what is top of the range in the 100cm,  a good gun prise is not the issue.
just want a good powerful, precise, easy to use speargun.

numerous times as a teenager out Boat Harbour round to Voodoo and off the reef, thus one reason I gave it away, even when I wasnt towing the catchbag I never felt entirely safe, your in their place. Not a confidence inspiring sound that thrashing sound of the catchbag having its bottom ripped open.

While diving Upei Island in Solomans we had a pack of hammerheads do a figure 8 past us at ~120ft down. They came from below us and only about 100 odd ft away, they came looped above us and wee'd off before say "OH BOTHER SHARK" - didnt see who they were chasing but good luck!
But if I could fit in a wetsuit, I'd go there again, awesome place http://www.uepi.com/

Missed all these replies - sorry. I have no problem with majority of sharks, but if you want to swim with rogue bull sharks, white pointers and mako's you are more than welcome to. They are aggressive, and are extremely unpredictable. I have swum with a number of sharks, but nothing beats a bit of comfort that comes from a shark shield! This is especially the case when you are turning water red with fish blood!

I think its 600 dollars well spent!
