Hi,
Well away from beaches and caravan parks, or areas that have "No Camping" signs at every road ending.
The only summer trips we have done on the mainland were up the spine of the Great Dividing Range, needed to get altitude to avoid the heat.
cheers

Tumut NSW. In the valley close to the Snowy mountains, plenty of free camping available around Blowering Dam, the Tumut river for Trout fishing, access to the Kosciusko NP, Batlow apples, awesome drives with free camping around Tantangra Dam, Blue Water holes, Eucumbene Dam, Lake Jindabyne, 3 mile dam, Talbingo Dam, Tumut 2 pondage, tour of Tumut 3 power station, all within a couple of hours of Tumut.

If you are into Caravan Parks the River Glade on the bank of the Tumut River is hard to beat, but plenty of free options.

30k's inland from Gundagai off the Hume Hwy, about 4 1/2 hours from the central coast.

Hard to beat. So much to see in all different directions.

We lived there for 13 years, and can't wait to get back. So much we still haven't seen.

Regard Jas.

A couple of photos attached of our Blowering camps. Even large groups like ours can find a spot away from everyone else. Great place.

To right Jas...Owned a house in Gundagai for 5 years down on the flat just over the bridge, turn left to take the lesser know route to Tumut. Loved all around that area, the dam as you say and the forest tracks are great with some real fun 4WDing there..Good stuff.

Know exactly where you are talking about mate. Which house was yours, there is only acouple doen there, not far from the pub either. And in my previous post I forgot to mention all the great spots to Camp along the Murrumbidgee also not far from Tumut. I don't think I could get sick of that country.

In Brisbane its not a matter of escaping the heat but escaping the humidity, so we head for the hills! Queen Mary Falls, Mount Warning, glen Lyon Dam, etc there are nice spots around northern NSW both coastal and inland near Tenterfield(bald mountain) or a liitle further south our favourite Gibraltar Range NP. These areas still get hot but you can get away from the  humidity and into the creeks and forests, and the temperatures at night are great.

The last one as your drive towards Tumut. If you went down the access road there are three houses on the left and then one by it's self. Backed on the the river and had a creek on the right of us..

We do what all good bullfrogs do & head for water  ;D .Fortunately,in the Clarence Valley, water is never far away with lots of creeks & rivers to explore. Sitting in a flowing river up in the hills with a cold beer in summer time is hard to beat.

When we were living in the Blue Mountains, we would travel to the South Coast, Ulladulla area, as well as Barrington Tops in Hunter Valley.  Now we are on the North Coast of NSW, we are exploring and finding new places, both inland and on the coast.

For peace and quiet - Derwent River and the Hydro-Electric Dams all the way up into the highlands = great trout fishing, swimming and kayaking. Scotts Peak Dam and Lake Gordon area - heaps of great camping ares and the scenery is fantastic, oh and did I mention the trout fishing?

East coast for salt water fishing and swimming - Friendly Beaches (Unfortunately a Nat Park now, so no open fires and very limited prospects for trailer based camping). Fortescue Bay, also run by Nat Pks but at least you can have a fire there - gets crowded though.

Reminds me, must find a friendly farmer who has waterfront farm between Orford and Swansea, hmmm.

I spend a bit of time around Seal Rocks, Forster and home. I hate going west in summer.

Summer to our family is water, water and more water.

Well we head for Port Stephens that is the place for us for summer holidays. Camp on Stockton Beach or there are caravan parks spread around the port for those that want the ammenities.

Now we are going to be in Canberra I think we will start exploring the Snowy region, thanks to those that have highlighted this region in this thread. I reckon we will be checking out Batemans Bay and Tuross Heads too.

Hi Danbri & Mav

Definately agree with you regarding the water, love it so much & honestly can't go camping during summer without being near water. And the funny thing is that we live in a beautiful location but go to Port Stephens to have a break!!!!! Going to Hawks Nest on Friday, apparently great weather for the weekend...can't wait
Absolutely love Batesman Bay have found a great spot down on the river, looking forward to going down this summer...

Victorian High Country, we try to find camps above 700mtrs to avoid the heat and stay away from camps that have 2WD access, although sometimes you can't.

We especially avoid Caravan Parks.
