building our first camper
« on: August 14, 2011, 04:53:32 PM »
Day,

Tony's the name, live in SA, boilermaker and fitter and turner by trade..

i am currently in the process of building a off road CT, well err.. i have ordered the materials for the project anyway.. :D

after doing a little research and looking at a few designs around Adelaide and on line, i decided to purchase engineering drawings from www.trailerplans.com.au

I'm my opinion the off road trailer design from the website is probably the best most rigid i could find, and the drawings were able to give me some compliant base dimensions to make a start.

we have decided that we are going to change a few things from the drawing such as, a longer drawbar to accommodate a rack for our 2 dirtbikes and fabricate dust/water resistant side boxes to keep out generator, shower unit, battery set up etc in good order and secure.

so, me and the missus have never actually owned a CT before, so this is all new to us, and haven't done a whole lot of research on what are good reliable brands of things to fit our trailer out with once its built..
also, we want a tough camper that can handle anything we can throw at it, so we were thinking a full independent suspension set up would be the better option but not 100% sure..

we were hoping you guys can give us some advice as experienced CT owners and users of what the better options are as far as equipment, suspension set up and so forth..

the things we want in out CT are:
heavy duty suspension/chassis
tailgate kitchen
generator
hot water heater and shower unit
water tank/s and pressure pump/s
duel gas bottle set up
duel battery set up
tent (nothing huge, its just the 2 of us and our gear)
fridge

any of your opinions or knollage would be greatly appreciated

cheers tony  ;D

Thanks Tony,
I can weld pretty well, I have 2 inverter stick/tigs and a 220A mig, it was just sometimes people post about welding this and that, and I thought coming from a Trailer builder would confirm what is correct.
It will be a while b4 I start but I am still gleaning ideas from all the other builds on here   ;D ;D
