Hi Zorro,

I guess there's probably a lot that determines your needs, like budget, size, bushability, weight etc. So I wasn't going to suggest anything at this stage other than the current issue of Camper Trailers Australia came out today with a "Soft Floor Shootout" of 8 popular brands.

Not suggesting you should buy one of these, but what I like about the article is that they had a couple of budget/entry level trailers, some mid budget and then a couple of the premium ones. The discussion about each of the brands and what was good about them with regards to kitchen set up, 12v set up, build quality and storage layout was very valuable. Well I thought so anyway.

So that you know where I am coming from, I bought a Johnnos trailer about 3 weeks ago after doing a bunch of research because it suited our wants and needs the best.

I'm sure you'll get some good advice on the brand you're already looking at, just thought I would mention the mag.

Cheers,

Jason.

I know if it was me buying it, as you have a choice I would fit the electric brakes.
Also you might be able to get a storm cover to fit the tent as well, as it is a Austrack tent.

Zorro
What state are you in?
All Terrain Camper Trailers factory is in Seven Hills NSW. We featured in the recent "softfloor shootout" in which we won best offroader. Prices in the mag article were around 25k but starting from around 17k for the 17ft tent, in standard guise, then you can add on whatever options you want as you find you need them.

I think it will definitely help to hire one / two first. Try Big Country campers, they have both hard and soft floor. This will help you decide your needs in regards to storage, size, setup ease, towing weight etc.

hi ill grab that mag today. Yes thats the site i was looking at there big red camper

Interestingly enough I have ordered one of these Big Reds from Jason. Should be finished by the end of the month. A couple of reasons why I chose this particular one was the build quality and price. After looking around at plenty of soft floor campers and doing some research on his campers I came to the conclusion that vitually finding nothing on the net about them has to be a good thing. No negative comments that I could find anyway. Also went out twice to his factory and had a good look at these trailers in various stages of build.
Now I will also doing a review on this camper when it is delivered. It will be taken up to the Cliffhanger event and after that the NewTriton.Net meetup in Louth. So by the time I get it I will only have time to register it and not have a play until it is taken away with me.
I have no connection at all with Jays Camper Trailers. I have paid full price for the Big Red and have not recieved any discounts. Jason is aware that I will be writing about it and he is also aware that if any bits fall off or workmanship is not up to par it will be written about as well.

I was going to ask some of these questions as we are looking at Aussie Jay's trailers as well.  Can I ask why you would choice the electric brakes over the mechanical?  Sorry being a newbie I wouldnt know the differences.
Any chance of pros and cons of mechanical brakes as opposed to electric brakes? The mechanical brakes seem to cost an extra $250 than the electric so I made an assumption that they would be better? (if upgrading from a cheaper model of trailer)
