looks a lot like a waeco, and has a danfoss compressor,  the only issue I see is;

power consumption

60W, 5amps on 12v DC

seems a bit high, but hard to know really how that figure is produced

I also found this;
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/50L-EvaKool-Portable-Car-4wd-Fridge-Freezer-12v-24v-/250854477697?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3a68178f81
Says it is EvaKool, however it does not appear to be on their catalog. Seems to be very good value for money, what is the catch?

They both appear to be the same fridge, to me.

I saw the Evakool one at the Rosehill caravan show, however it was powered by a Domus compressor, not a Danfoss.

I like the look of them, and for all intents and purposes I'd say that Evakool have made a fridge to directly compete with the Waeco's. I'd like to see how they would go in a comparison with the Waeco.

Looks are in the eye of the beholder, what you are after is the following:
1/. Low Ah usage over a 24hr period.
2/. Max and Min temp control
3/. From Ambient cool down time when it is swithed on
4/. Thickness of cabinet Insulation
5/. Cycling times to maintain temp @ 25c
6/. Backup Service and warranty
7/. Compressor motor insulation and max degree angle that it will work
8/. Low Ah Battery cut off

If you camp one or two times year for a couple of weeks and use the fridge once and a while for a beer fridge, well the dollars may be worth it, but if you are a camper who is out twice a month, have the fridge in the back of the 4wd, use it constantly as a bar fridge when not camping...forget it

I agree with Morgue.

Can anyone find any info on google on Krieger Fridges (they make good fridge magnets http://www.zazzle.com.au/krieger+magnets) - apart from this ebay seller? or any hits on "Krieger YCD50" ? It could possibly a the Wan King rebadged to a name that sounds german and quality? Who knows anymore.

or a google of EvaKool IB50 or EvaKool IB 50
I'd contact evakool first on the other one. if it aint on their website or any of their other international sites I'd be sus...

A good quality fridge is an investment.

dont forget you can get factory seconds (scratch and dint).. heaps of mates have used the Waeco one http://www.fridgeshop.com.au/

or http://www.evakoolstore.com/

Question: "What Makes A Second a Second?"

Answer: As a result of Evakool's stringent quality control and following the identification of certain visible imperfections, certain iceboxes and fridges have been graded as factory seconds.
These imperfections are purely aesthetic in nature (e.g. superficial hairline cracks or gelcoat discolouring on fibreglass or scratching on Polyethylene boxes).
Factory seconds could also be units that have been transit damaged or had broken fittings which have since been repaired.

Fridges can also be ex-demo units which have been used at shows or in the showroom.
Any imperfections DO NOT affect the insulation properties or performance of the icebox or fridges, qualities for which Evakool is world renowned.
For warranty terms please see the Freight and Warranty page.

I agree, we thought long and hard about spending serious coiin on our first fridge,
will you need a fridge in 10 years time?
warranty? durability? spare parts? resale when you've finished with it
we went with a mainstream brand, and now dont regret spending what we did,
buy quality and buy it once (although we all cannot resist a bargain!)

just my .02c
cheers

I have the 31L fridge from evakool their called FRIDGE MATE and run it continuously for 14 weeks as a freezer on our trip around Aust and it never missed a beat.As for power consumption I use a century Pro600 as my second battery and I was getting 24hrs with no great loss of power.Mine cost $500 with bag and 240v adaptor as a back up for the Engel it is a good option when yuo consider the price.

 I agree with Lost.
I'd call Evakool and ask them if they actually warrant either fridge.
 Money well spent I'd say.

In relation to the "EvaKool" model resisted the urge to ring this Ebayer because I know I will be fed a line of BS.
Additionally there would appear to be several other fridges identical to this on the 'bay' at the moment with different names. The official EvaKool site has no reference to the model, which brings one to the conclusion that it is not made by that company.
