Unseasonal flooding caused by dual weather phenomena and already water-logged ground has stunned Kimberley locals and closed roads, with one driver rescued after his car was washed away.

A minor flood warning is currently in place for the Fitzroy River at Noonkanbah, with Willare likely to reach minor flood levels overnight.

Minor flood warnings began to filter through for parts of the Kimberley late last week, but by Sunday moderate flood warnings were in place for Fitzroy Crossing.

On Monday water levels on the Fitzroy River peaked at 11.3 metres, a nine-metre rise over five days, after rainfall blanketed the region.

The floodwaters forced authorities to close a section of the Great Northern Highway just outside Fitzroy Crossing, headed towards Halls Creek

Photos released by Main Roads WA showed vehicles attempting to cross the inundated section of road near Bluebush Creek, over the weekend and early this week.

And yet, there are fools that will drive into fast flowing water, without the slightest regards for others in the car or those that have to rescue them!  >:(

:D   Not likely but yeah that is an old Leader. They don't know what hit the Kenworth. It could have been the silo behind it but the tyre walls that were on the silage bunkers did a lot of damage to the silo's and you can see the imprints from them on some of the silo's.  :o

WOW, Victoria has copped ot in the last 24 hours.
Storms which have left 200000+ without power, with no idea when that will be fixed.
Fires, which have injured Fire Fighters, destroyed homes & properties.
Take care.

Yes. News report spoke about a truck burn over with minor burns. Town of Pomonal lost half its dwellings (only 30 houses, small town, but still hits hard, possibly harder than big town).

Meanwhile in Gippsland, late arvo, choas from storm. I turned on CFA radio when I got home from work. 300 incidents on Emergency App in West, south and Central Gippsland at one stage. Farmer died at Mirboo Nth. Hit by roofing iron whilst herding cowes. Incident reports from members describing scenes like from a tornado. Powerlines down everywhere. Trees down everwhere. Trucks can't get to crashes due to blocked roads. Brigades turning themselves out due to pagers and phones down.

I assume probably no where near as bad as Qld has often and frequently copped, but still hard work dealing with it all.

Anyone heading to Birdsville..... The track is now the Birdsville Canal

The amount of rain has turned the Birdsville track into a Chanel while waters in the Diamintina race towards Birdsville.
