Tips on selling campers.
« on: March 05, 2014, 06:34:53 PM »

We see a lot of members needing to sell their campers so hopefully some of these ideas may help in finding a buyer quick.

De clutter the camper to what it will look like when a buyer inspects.

Clean the camper from top to bottom. Make it sparkle, Amorall the tires and stone guard, touch up any stone chips if possible with a spray can of the matching color, fix any parts that look a little worse for wear, any rust spots should be cleaned, spray the springs etc.

Using the template write all the features the camper comes with, everything from the hitch to the tailgate.  Reason for selling and why it was purchased in the first place.

Find a park or open area to set up the camper properly.

Start the photos off with the camper closed and take pictures front, both sides, rear and underneath. Include all electrical set ups, water tank set ups, kitchen set ups etc

Then take photos of the camper opened up with awning first then add side awnings next in a separete photo. Start from the out side and working your way inside. That way it tells a story from beginning to end. Try different angles also when taking photos even squat down and take photos.

The competition these days from new campers can make it hard selling second hand ones but if the camper looks like a million dollars it will get noticed.

This will also help attract buyers from out of town and interstate.

Setting a realistic price is not easy, try and find what has sold or is for sale for the same brand if possible. If not start at a price that you would like to achieve and go from there. Depending how quick you want / need to sell you may need to reposition the price  a number of times to get interest. Once it's perceived as value buyers will call.

I hope this helps and good luck selling.

Ask for a realistic price... not necessarily what you think it is worth, all those mods you did are worth bugger all to buyers as they become the "norm'.

We sold ours "as is" to a couple who wanted what we had, 'cause they really wanted something that they could add food & clothing & tow it away.

Could have asked for more but remember, every month longer you keep it, the older it gets, and more newer models may appear.

yep, the quality of the photos is what lets alot of adds down.

If you are selling a $20,000+ item and you are not to good with a camera, get a mate who is or invest a couple of hundred for some profesional shots.

You do not see people selling houses etc with cheap crappy phone images (although there are some good phone cameras these days, but you get what I mean)
Cheers, Craig

Just sold our Johnnos Evolution, took 7 months.
This is a list of the sites we had it it listed on and the viewing count for each site.

Caravan Camping Classified     83        paid ad $25
TradeRvs                                 484        paid ad $50
Lcool                                       717
GreyNomads                           400
MySwag                                1999
Caravaners Forum                  486
4x4 Earth                                599
Gumtree                                 466
Ebay                                     1167

Eventually sold via GreyNomads. My conclusion - don't bother with the dedicated paid adverts.

Just sold mates camper through Ebay $8.80 per time.. Only had it there and here..
Caravan camping sales was $110ish for the ad so bailed on that to start with.

Had it on Ebay as 30 day - Buy Now/Make offer.
2 times had more than 800 views, numerous watchers (10+) and no interest, third time had 500 views.

Had 1 time wasting clown accidentally clicking make offer... accidentally typing a bid... accidentally clicking confirm... then accidentally clicking submit and his wife had second thoughts, his dog had fleas, his budgie had the flu etc - he wasn't really sure what was going on.

Last week I had another young family contact me, dude was genuine, and they got a great solid trailer for a bargain and pickup this weekend.

I've finally talked SWMBO into converting our camper trailer into cash to go towards doing the house up to sell. It's a Chinese import soft floor job put together here by an Aussie company, Leisure Master. You know, the usual. The one thing special about this CT is that it was bought new in 2013 and, HAS NEVER BEEN USED Queen bed never slept in etc. I set it up back in 2013 to season the canvas, once dried out I  packed it up. I did some mods (all described here) built a little trailer port for it, stuck it in there up on blocks and there the poor old girl has stayed for 7 years now. Always registered but never hit the tar or dirt.
We have personal family issues that were not even on the horizon when we bought the CT and genuinely prevent us from hitting the great outdoors. So now I will put it up for sale. I'm disappointed that the twin Ritar 120AH batteries never got to light even a lamp.  :'(
I think the price will amaze some but in reality it's hard to sell camping stuff right now.

You might be surprised, campers and their associated bits are selling well above what they were pre-COVID. There was some camper bits I have had in my gumtree watchlist for over a year, the seller had multiple but hadn't sold any, in the last few weeks he has sold them all for the asking price and had other people lining up.
