Engineer Needed
« on: December 09, 2019, 12:03:14 PM »
G'day all,

Can anyone recommend an engineer for chassis design?

We're building a large trailer for our farm (about 8400 x 4320) and would like some help with the chassis design. It won't be taken on road or anything, but the stresses and loads are not insignificant.

Cheers,
Peter

Hunter Valley, NSW. Just need the planning work, not the construction.

We run a pastured raised chicken (egg) business. So we move the hens around the farm. At present they have a different trailer for nesting/roosting and another for feed. We want to combine the two. It'll have about 6t of stuff on it (water, feed, the hens themselves), plus the chassis

Peter, any mechanical engineer should be able to do this for you quite quickly. I'd suggest you give him:

1. a layout sketch showing the body with overall dimensions and the length of the drawbar
2. the position of the spring hangers and the number of axles
3. the size and types of loads - be they point loads or distributed loads plus the materials to be carried
4. the maximum tare weight you have in mind
5. materials of construction
6. your capacity to fabricate, just in case he comes up with some sort of complex open webbed beam for the main rails
7. the desired height of the bed above the ground

There are a number of trailer manufacturers in your area. Maybe one of them could draw it up for you and supply some of the components.  Good luck with the build.

Did you get the linear actuator working on the nesting boxes?
4.2L TD Toyota Troopy, (Clarke's Country Camper Trailer, softfloor.) sold it and bought a Avan Ray small poptop caravan.
