kids snorkel sets

hi all,

we are going to Vanuatu next april and are looking at getting some snorkel sets for the boys (7 and 10) for christmas for the trip...

looking to see if anyone has any advice on brands, etc?

we are looking at getting something half decent (up to $50 maybe?), as they both like the water and will hopefully use them for a while...

thinking about getting just a mask and snorkel with a dry valve, so no water gets in at the top and gives them a fright...

don't think we need fins at this stage...

any advice on brands, etc would be appreciated...

I’m not sure about brands but I reckon fit is the most important factor, particularly for kids. If I was you I’d take the kids to Rebel, Amart or similar and get them to try on some different ones and pick the ones that fit best.

I’m very happy with it - the dry valve works extremely well, the mask seals against his head, the design of the flippers mean they can be adjusted as their feet grow, and the price is right  ;D

He has had his set for about 12-18 months.

Have a look at the all in one mask, full face mask with snorkel out the top. No water in the mouth or the snorkel mouth piece. Can be easier for the younger kids, downside is it covers full face (mouth and nose).

Go for a trip to a dive shop and look in teh bargains bin... our local always has plenty of good gear cheap...
just wish I could fit in me wetty :(

We did a cruise to Vanuatu in March and we stopped at Lifou for a day and we all snorkelled.   Some of the families in our group had expensive gear and the rest of us had what was on special at Rebal sport for $25-$40. Consensus was especially for kids and just being used for snorkelling, there wasn’t any real difference between the good and the cheap. If actually Scuba diving, then the good gear pays for itself.

While in Vanuatu we did lots of swimming, but no one needed any snorkelling gear.

If your looking at doing a tour while there we were recommended to use a local called Fraser Mackie and were extremely happy with what he offered (Apart from a slight case of food poisoning from lunch) No affiliation to this guy/company apart from being a happy customer.

 I probley would look at getting a set with fins makes the world of difference. I do a bit of diving and when im taking me weight belt of and fins of before I jump im the boat you feel like your kicking you feet 100mph to get back in
