Refurbish or replace tent in second hand camper
« on: November 09, 2018, 07:58:11 PM »
Hi All,
Looking for some advice on my 2012 Lifestyle Walkthrough camper that I've had for 18 months now.

I bought it second hand and the tent is a bit worse for wear....

Broken but splinted and usable inner roof support.
All guy and peg loops rotted away.
Few holes poorly repaired in flyscreens.
Strained corners in non bed end of tent which leak in bad rain.
Tropical roof fasteners rotted away and tropical roof in poor condition.
Various press studs pulled through on walkthrough area of tent.
Zip broken on tent cover but velcro still good.

I've been quoted $5500 for a new tent fitted by Lifestyle themselves which is about what I paid for the camper. They don't have any replacement poles or tropical roof for me to repair the existing tent.

Questions are:

Is it worth repairing all of the above and indeed doable?
Do you know of any other tents that would fit this for a more affordable price?
Do I just grin and bare it...which is what we've been doing, with only problem being I'm putting a tarp between the tropical roof and canvas.

Your opinions and advice are appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Bird,
My point exactly! Trailer is fine but that kind of money is a bit rich for me for a replacement tent...

plenty of people have had custom tents made, custom tropical roof's made....

Your not going to get an off teh shelf one elsewhere to fit it

So your 2 options. LS or custom. Either way will be expensive for a 12ft but the LS one you may dream would fit properly and could be easier to run with. But personally I'd look at custom ... depending on price, you could get more windows/differen windows etc.

Have a search for canvas work on the forum.

Photos of the trailer and tent etc??? Do you plan on keeping for 10yrs, maybe cheaper to cut your losses.

I was in a similar (but slightly different) situation, I bought a second-hand tent and swapped it over. If you are not in a rush I would keep an eye out for another tent, ones for a walkthrough don't come up too often but they do come up, usually go for sub $1000

Thanks guys,
I like the idea of looking for a second hand one. I could do some running repairs such as getting a new inner pole made while I keep a look out.

I might look at getting a quote for custom one too...I'll check the rest of the forum out for the best recommended manufacturer.
All the best
