Whilst I don't agree with the outcome, I'll suggest that it is a different agenda as to why DELWP want to close areas. They don't have enough budget as it is to maintain current facilities. By closing areas where there is minimal use/low traffic/not a draw card, they can refocus those $$$ on the high traffic areas such as Great Ocean Rd, Wilsons Prom etc. As I said I don't agree with it but that's the way it is. People already complain about paying taxes and paying higher camping fees, where do you think that money goes? Look at the funds from fishing licenses and how that has helped with freshwater stockings and returned Port Phillip Bay to a fantastic fishery. Do we introduce a camping/park license and follow the same path? Recreational fishing is a massive business and their peak bodies have lobbied government very well to get to where they are. We need a united body for camping/outdoors to do the same, otherwise these places will keep getting closed.
