Mars Extremo Camper
« on: November 11, 2015, 12:52:31 PM »
Hi Everyone,

this is my first post - so be kind...

I have already read a lot of the Mars camper threads on this site and others and now am about to make the big decision to order one or not.

For my current vehicle, diesel forester, the mars extremo fits with all the towing capability stats, compared to other similar imported campers with comparable things on offer the Mars seems the lightest. Feel free to correct me. The MDC voyager was alot heavier as was the jumpbuck would be a bit too heavy for the forester i think. I do intend on getting a larger tow vehicle down the track as well.

For the price theses campers are pretty good value and I intend on fixing/upgrading what i have to myself, and i expect there will be some teething issues.

Is there any advice out there for a new comer to this game that i may not have considered? Im teetering on the edge of putting the order in, with my wife pushing me to buy...however i dont want to regret the decision as i missed something obvious?? ???

Anyhow all advice would be most appreciated

Cheers

Pooley

How do you plan to use it, off-road or just parks and camp grounds? And how people in the family?

Not owning a hard floor myself, its hard to say, but the things i would look at:
Does the floor feel solid/sturdy? Are all the struts, hinges and latches solid? For anything thats welded on, are you happy with quality
Does the kitchen do what it needs, ie, could you cook a full meal for 4 at it?
Can you fit everything in including fridge/esky if you plan to transport them in the camper
Do the electrics and plumbing cover what you will need?

Nothing against the Mars but at $14k there are a few other hard floors available. It pays to shop around. Not sure what you Tug can tow but mine fully loaded is less than 1500kg.

The Mars model only has a 70 litre water tank whereas others have 100lts, something to consider.

Thanks for the replies guys. Gave me a few things to think about.
Its just my wife and I and our 9 month old. So i think there is plenty of room for us and whats on the camper has everything that i think we need. In the foreseeable future it should just be caravan parks and fairly easy national park sites.

Muzza, at $14,000 what are some others you would recommend looking at?  Anything in particular?

Cheers,  Ash

Cheers Muzza, so many to choose from, and so many opinions out there!
I'm heading to the Perth Camping and Caravan Show next week so will have a better look then.

Just make sure you know what your ball weights are with the Subaru (we have a diesel Outback) and a hard floor camper when loaded. The ball weight will also reduce your payload.

We ended up going soft floor because of the smaller ball weight.
