Had a search and found a few threads but not what I wanted and few efforts of google got me donuts too :(

Few years ago bloke in club had a great shovel mount on his rack... or maybe I dreamt it... ???

The way it worked was that you slid the head of the shovel into a small shovel head shaped box - this was spring loaded.
You pushed the head into this spring loaded part, and then the handle fitted into a bit of pipe receiver - no need for pinch bolts or anything like that... the spring loading held it in place
I believe it was from a 4b joint around Melbourne... Not sure how great it was long term but I thought it looked like a great idea...
anyone seen one??

I've looked at the other types and cant believe the prices...

$50.00 for this ??? I'd pay $15!
I really need to learn to weld.

I've looked at them, but not sure how good they would be with the small mounting screws designed for them...
are the hard or soft rubber... if they were soft, wouldnt they would rip apart in no time offroad ???


wish I had my old mount dunno what I did with it in the end...  :(

I have used quickfists for shovel and axe for around 5 years, given them a hiding and they have never ripped or let go of the gear. I use a M6 stainless bolt to secure them (you need to screw them through as the hole is only about 5mm) along with the plastic square washer that comes with (that I drill out to 6mm). That said I now use a rhino holder for my shovel as it worked better from a mounting point of view on my platform  - bloody expensive though.

This sounds vaguely like the arrangement we have on the RFS trucks to hold the McCloud tools.  I'll try and grab a photo later, but there is a pipe the handle goes into and a spring loaded bar that is lifted out of the way to insert / remove the tool and then lowers against the back of the tool pushing it hard against the pipe holding the handle so there is no vibration.

I've had quick fists (is that what its called) holding a long handled shovel on my CT for a few years now.  Works really well.

I bought a long handle shovel and was looking at the holders from Rhino.
Is there a minimum diameter for those quick fists?

I was looking at getting the toggle clamps for my setup. Didnt have time to get the roof racks sorted for the last trip so the shovel went in the tub.
After the experience of a couple of weeks ago, I'm not going to go close to any of those fiddly, screwy things.
I will get a canvas bag made up for the shovel that can be hosed out.
I can imagine my state of mind when I would have had to unscrew/unstrap the shovel with everything covered in the stickiest,slimiest,greasiest crap I have come across.
We had to stop half a dozen times to scrape the mud out from between the tyres and guards so the tyres would keep turning.
Just knocked some of the mud off the shovel and threw it in the tub.

I will do a trip report next week.
This bit was the last 60ks William Creek to Coober Pedy. Missed by 60ks. Took 4 hours.
Can you imagine fiddling with screws or straps on the roof racks covered in this sh!t.

do which come with it? the fistings come with screws... but to me they look small..  but apparently they work.

My quickfists didn't come with screws. They did come with a free stubby cooler from ovesco though. Yes, they work just as good covered in mud and don't scar the shovel handle like rhino ones without the dicky clip that lasts 2 seconds.

I've had a few different types Rhino type shovel holders before I found the ARB rubber shovel holder( similar to quick fist). It's the easiest to use to far. No need to slide shovel and twist handles to lock shovel in, just lift up secure flap place shovel on and re secure flap, takes seconds. I had it for 4 years and still looks new.

hour at mates factory in his scrap bin, tools and him welding - I made 2 that look something like this... just a bit more industrial ;)
