WHERES ALBY MANGLES!
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160686336258

Trusty 4-Seater Haflinger.

I have a copy of the factory original Wagenstammkarte

Up for sale is my much loved 4-seater 1970 model Haflinger. It is reliable and regularly used. Rare in this condition. Ive done lots to this vehicle to get it road registered. She is ex-Tasmanian, and prior to that ex-Victorian (possibly from Mt Buller Ski resort area, according to the previous owner).

bout as good as a Moke! - its just a lifted moke!

Anything but!!  The Moke was just a reinforced Mini bodypan, the Haflinger was an extremely capable go-anywhere vehicle.  Was very popular in the 60's-70's with the European huntin'-shootin'- fishin' crowd for being able to get into remote spots to bring back the deer they'd just shot.

I'd love one, but can't justify the expense for what would just be a toy..
Camping is great as long as the mattress is inner spring!

I am sure they have front and rear factory difflocks and approach and departure angles that were the best of anything.

Very smooth and comfortable - great daily driver  ;D
My alternative to cheap import trailers;

I remember one running around Geelong Grammer School @ Timbertop for several years in the late 70's and early 80's.  Owned by a teacher, David ????? (forgot name).  He used to terrorise the ducks, geese and students on the school driveway with it.  Legend has it, i vaugely remember, that it nearly rolled one night after a collision with a Wombat.

Would be amazing if the same vehicle, I dont remember there being another one locally around this time.

 :cup:

On further thinking, it may have even been earlier than I first thought, probably mid 70's.

Now that I can see it:

was it allways yellow - build papers on your add seem to say "beige" (as well as its name, "Keith"!)
The one I remember was certainly a ragtop, but I remember it being a dirty grey/greenish colour.
If its the one I knew of, you sure have a vehicle with a bit of history there.

Further edit (following discssion with a mate)

It used to get parked next to the woodshed at timbertop.  One day at the end of term, the students carried it into the woodshed and left it parked sideways between 2 stacks of firewood.

It wasnt found by the owner until after all the students had departed.   He had to move about 5 ton  of firewood himself before he could get it out!  ;D ;D

I learnt to drive Manual in one of these. They are unstoppable, weigh nothing, and have an incredible combination of front/rear d-locks, plus full high-low transfer case.

So very tempting. The one I had access to is still where I last saw and drove it. Might get hold of it again one day..

They are unstoppable,

You're not wrong there.  Somewhere in my garage is a 1970s Aussie 4wd magazine that contains an extensive road test on one of them.  Despite having wheels not much bigger than a mini, the thing drove over a wet 12 inch diameter tree trunk that was lying across a steep muddy hill that they were trying to climb.

Looks to be what they used decades ago in Doctor Who Jon Pertwee series "Colony in Space":

VW Amarok Highline 2016
Jayco Swan Outback 2015

My uncle had two. We used them for hunting on the farm.

They will go pretty much anywhere. They have a crawler gear with max speed at 8km/h from memory. Front and rear diff locks. Portal axles with fully independent suspension and 25cm of travel at each axle. If they get stuck they can be lifted by 4 men as they only weigh 600kg. Only good for about 60km/h flat out though.

Steyer Puch went on to design the original Mercedes G Wagen

If I win Lotto I'll be getting the larger Pinzgauer
