You probably got landed with the expensive Scotch Lock connector, and the Gold plated copper wire.

Is it an LED light?  Or did you end up with the bulb type, with silver plating and crystal instead of glass for the bulb?
It's strange how silver plating rusts and tarnishes so quickly nowadays.

I paid less than $100 for mine from the local ARB store.

No way I'd pay that much.
