ANZAC-Lest we forget
« on: April 22, 2016, 07:07:02 PM »
To all enjoying the long weekend for a camp and some some quality time with the family

I would like to share a few words sent by a Mate to a few shared exservicemen and women. I thought it was relevant to share as we (MySwag) also share comraderie and fellowship.

I would also like to share a short poem (not mine)

Fellow Service Men & Women of the Navy, Army & Air force

Will have a quiet moment of reflection of my service and all of yours to our country on Monday.

May your day be filled with camaraderie and fellowship from your various services, Units, Ships & Associations as we all reflect on our service to this great country, and our mates (Male & Female) that are no longer with us

We will be camping for the weekend. We feel really guilty for not making the dawn service but we'll be thinking of what all the servicemen & women have sacrificed for us of the years, they're the salt of the earth

As Muzza said, no need to feel guilty,  you dont have to be at a dawn service to remember and  honour them, Dad was a veteran and never once attended an ANZAC day service, Always said it was more important to spend the day with his family and friends in rememberance of his mates, because so many of them never got the chance too  ..

I will be representing my unit at a service on the big day.

I will be remembering my mates that we lost in 2010 in Afghanistan.

Once my duties are complete, I will be heading up to bribie for the day to rest and relax!!

Lest we forget and enjoy your day!!
Cheers

Just for back from the Emerald RSL service. Took the kids for their first one. Was in Walhalla yesterday. Would have loved to have attended their service.

Thank you to those who both put and continue to put their lives on the line to make Australia the great and lucky country that it still is today. I may not be attending a service today (first one I have missed in a while), but last night whilst sitting around the camp fire we took the time to discuss the sacrifices so many people made in various conflicts over the years, and tried to imagine the things those people must have seen / see whilst fighting under the banner of our country. Whilst those who died made the ultimate sacrifice, those who returned are likely never the same as they were when they first left our shores...they could have been wounded or seen things we can't even start to imagine, and that will possibly haunt them for the rest of their lives...they need not have died to have made a sacrifice, like many of their comrades sadly did.
For this, I and my family are eternally grateful

Went To Running Creek on the Howqua river  outside of Jamieson . Departed camp at 5am to make the Dawn service to reflect . Really wonderful service  , very well presented .
Rimfire Breakfast then back to camp for more .During the 1 Min silence Kookaburras rang out in the morning mist

To climb out of the boats and into the pre-dawn darkness and madness; whilst under intense enemy fire and terror ....

We attended the dawn service in Numurkah I heard Kookaburras there too and remember smiling to myself thinking how Australian. Hopefully this youtube link will work this young man is the son of close family friends. He also played during the week for some returned veterans.

Took my girls to this mornings dawn service. This is their second dawn service plus they've done two other dawn services on the Sea Rescue Stebber. Sea Rescue set three rocket flares during the service. Its to signify the three services. They're getting a good understanding of why we remember this day. My 11 year old also sang in the choir (bottom pic - front row - yellow shirt) for the 100 year calibrations, this has inspired her to learn stuff on her own. Always surprises me with what she knows and remembers. Proud dad.
