Ultimate fridge swap
« on: December 27, 2015, 01:37:19 PM »
Hi, new here so hope right place.

I'm looking at getting an Ultimate 2008, which has a gas fridge.(Dometic RM2355)

Would like to know if anyone has changed to a compressor fridge,

The electric side of it doesn't worry me, just what will physically fit.

I'm really excited about it, but I really don't like the compressor fridge

Thanks in advance,   Ken

Welcome to myswag. Congrats on the Ulti  :cup:

Are the dimensions available on the Waeco website?

Happy camping

Yes. A few owners have changed from a 3 way to the 2 way compressor.
I don't know what mods are needed, maybe a trim here and there but like KB said, check out the website for fridge dimensions of both fridges.

Good luck  with your desicion, you won't regret it.   You could also give ultimate a ring themselves but one would assume you won't get anything from them till the 4th, but they are very helpful even for owners that have bought second hand.  There is also an owners forum that is full of info, but you need to be an owner to access it.

Don't be afraid to ask any other questions.

In which case stick with the 3 way absorption  ;)

Assuming you do want to get rid of the RM2355 the size specs are here-
https://www.dometicrvcentre.com.au/onlinestore1/fridges/rm2355-90-lt-fridge-aes
Should be easy to hitch up the 12V/240V to a compressor fridge that fits but you'll have to blank off the gas.
The RM2355 is a $1500 fridge new and since it fits most earlier Jaycos with the lower bench height might easily find a buyer (the sort of surplus to requirements thing I'd toss on ebay auction starting at 99c)
Cheers

PS Here's a better link for sizing and cutout-
http://caravansplus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=9092
and rated at 175W on 12V the Ultimate wiring should be sweet for any compressor fridge

There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

Yeah, ours has the 110 litre waeco which is a nice fridge, but works pretty hard. I understand there's also a similar size Engel that may be more efficient.

The size differences are close with the waeco 110lt

Bought it anyway it's like brand new, guy used it once in 7yrs,
Still got original gas in the bottle, awning never been out of the bag

Cheers Ken
