Drifta drawers, any feedback
« on: October 27, 2015, 07:32:16 PM »
Hi Everyone,
We are considering putting a new set of drawers, fridge slide etc. in the back of our 100 series landcruiser and are considering all brands but can't seem to find much info about drifta drawers. I am aware they make excellent kitchens etc. but just haven't heard much feedback about their drawers.
thanks in advance

Barb,

I've got their DPOR Kitchen Package in my Trackabout, it's a great bit of gear...... I'd definitely recommend getting a Drifta set up in your Cruiser, in fact I've been wanting one myself however we still sometimes need the rear seats in the cruiser.

Reasons I like the Drifta gear,

1- I've never heard or read a bad word about Drifta service or product, only happy customers, including myself.
2- Aussie made, and Luke and the team appear particularly proud of their product.
3- Fuss free design, Teflon runners, no rattles, no bearings on drawers, almost zero maintenance required besides a clean up every now and again.
4- They can custom make to your requirements, narrow drawer, fat drawer, slide out kitchen box, fridge slide, etc fold out table incorporated, vertical stacked drawers, fridge at floor level etc

Luke's got some great vids on You Tube showing his 4wd drawer set ups too.

Hi Barb,
Not sure how to do the link here, but have a look at Luke's FB page - Drifta Camping and 4WD- their last post is a very impressive drawer fit-out of a Mercedes Sprinter- 10 drawers in all- all custom made to fit their particular requirements. I think the pics speak for themselves.
We have had quite a few dealings with Drifta, including a custom made kitchen for our CT, and we cannot fault them or their service.
Go for it.  :D

I Have a set of Drifta Drawers in my FJ Cruiser. They are awesome. I have the built in table which is worth its wait in gold.

I am a Drifta fan as I am on my second Drifta DPOR kitchen in my second camper.

I had them fitted in the Prado early last Oct.
I went with the std 2 drawer, pullout table, cargo barrier & MSA Dropslide
I'm very happy with them, & I was very surprised how useful the table was on this years 4 week cape york trip. I'm  sure it was used most days.
The only thing I don't like about them is the price.

Cheers

These are mine in my Hilux. I got the dcbc, the table, second draw, fridge divide, MSA drop down fridge slide, side wings and a 55lt water tank. Also in front of the fridge divide there is a small area with a lid to store bits n pieces.

Also, sorry to say it, but I am one customer they got it wrong for. Long story short, email traffic that explained what I wanted and my fridge size, but they built it for another fridge size. All good tho, they built another set of draws for me. Only problem was, I had to wait another 3 weeks for to be completed. That's the issue with custom draws.

Barb

I used to have their Car back kitchen which I sold when we got the CT.  I've also got a set in my Prado and as set of drawers in the camper trailer. I've got the slide out fridge slide and not a drop down, mainly to save weight.  I guess you can tell I am a fan? They are great, and yes they are a bit expensive but IMO you are paying for a quality product. Something I am happy to do, rather than a flat pack.

Luke has been doing this for a long time and knows what he’s doing. There’s a reason so many manufacturers offer Drifta drawer packages as an optional extra. The 4WD drawers are really very simple, robust, and maintenance free.  The Teflon runners don't get sand or gunk in them, just a quick sweep or vacuum and they're done.  They are also very light compared to other packages - mine come in at around 30kg. I've seen some others sitting at around 80/100kg. This doesn't affect the strength, it is mainly because it is all wood, with very little metal. I can take my drawers out by myself in about 5 minutes, which is great when I want to use the 3rd row of seats.

They offer standard packages but are very happy to customise the build. How many manufacturers will do that? Mine ‘standard’ package was made a bit shorter due to my cargo barrier and the slide was made a bit wider to take my Evakool fridge. And I got a few optional extras added. So you really can get what works for you. They are happy to talk to you over the phone about what you need and make suggestions based on their experiences and then build exactly what you want.

The little slide out table that they supply is such a simple idea but awesome. I always get asked about it. Can also be used as a shelf for quick stops

Their attention to detail is very good as well. I know the person whose vehicle was used as the template for their Prado 150 drawers. They took all day taking and retaking measurements to make sure it was correctly done. They were very particular about the measurements I had to provide when I had mine done.  It is also the little things they do that impress me. After the Prado was templated the owner referred a few others and they sent a thankyou gift through the post un-announced. Each item you buy comes with a note to tell you who built it, and you get free stubby coolers.  You can fit the drawers  yourself or go to the factory to have them fitted for you. If you go to the factory they give you the keys to a vehicle and a voucher for a coffee shop in town so you can wander around whilst you wait. ?

Coupled with the fact that it’s a good aussie success story, and they are an aussie manufacturer who try to employ local people in a rural area, I think its money well spent. They’ve gone from selling from the back of their car to owning a factory complex that now makes its own trailers.

Just to add to Drifta's recommendations, while I don't have one of their drawer systems, I did have their car back kitchen, and when I bought my 10yr old camper trailer a few years back it had one of their full kitchen with return in it. After one trip when I slid the kitchen out while it was fully loaded, and set it up on the legs so I could move the trailer out of the way, I mustn't have tightened one of the leg supports properly, and it collapsed, damaging both legs.

I rang Luke at Drifta to get a price on a new set of legs and he told me they had upgraded the legs so they had click in buttons to stop this happening. He convinced me to send it up, via their courier for free when it visited one of their suppliers, so they could repair it. When I spoke to him next, he said it was one of their very early builds and was happy to see it was still going strong, and would also give it a tidy up while it was there. I asked about price (holding my breath) and he said no cost, he was happy to replace the legs and make sure I was a happy customer.

I got the unit back about 2 weeks in total, because they were a bit busy, same deal free delivery if I picked it up from their suppliers again. When I saw it, it was like brand new again. They had fitted the new legs, replaced the slider plastic with new type (the old one had a broken bit from b4 I bought the trailer), fitted a new water hand pump, sanded a few nicks and scratches and given it a complete new coat of sealer. I was totally blown away by what they had done, and it didn't cost me a cent.

And you have to remember, I didn't even buy the unit from them originally, and it was just over 10 years old when I sent it up there.
So, all I can say is, you'll definitely be looked after by Luke and his team. Pretty hard to find that level of customer support these days.

Hey mate, you're not far from me by the looks. I forgot to add, Drifta also supplied a new washing up tub for the kitchen, because mine was missing.
And for the record, for other viewers, I don't know Ross personally, and have no affiliation with Drifter in any way, except that I am a very happy customer.
(yes i did buy our original car back kitchen from them)  ;D
