Sloping or Straight walls on the camper tent

Hi Guys,

The time has almost arrived to pick up our new Aussie Jays Crusher. We were due to pick it up in December, however we may have to push the date out until Jan next year. At the moment the camper trailer comes with a 12ft tent with sloping walls. If we wait until January next year to pick it up, the owners are changing their tent to a new design with straight walls.
Was just wondering what peoples thought were with straight walls vs sloping??

Straight walls give you more space , the 12 ft I would think would on the floor,  depending on the slope of the side , I'd probably wait, but wouldn't cos I wanted my new toy

Garfish, do you know if they take any longer to set up? is there more poles ect or are they basically the same? Ta

 I have experienced both and suggest to go the vertical walls, you seem to get more usable space.  With a vertical wall, gravity assists the setup of the corners of the ground sheet.

Can't help my answer was just a general observation. Give the dealer a call.   

With my original assumption I was thinking they would extend the top so the roof was square, as per my terrible drawing attached but if they shrink the bottom to get straight walls you'd lose space.

I've got the crusher. The sloped wall loses about 1-2 feet of usable area (except as storage)
I'd go the vertical wall.
The 12 foot is the floor length. I'd check if the floor size is the same. I doubt there would be more poles, just longer spreaders.

Cheers Jonesy,  I did ask Rebecca if the actual footprint was the same and she said yes. She also said the new tent will have storm flaps over all the zippers and a longer warranty. Have you had any trouble with water leaking in through zippers?? I think they are trying to make a few changes to improve the tent.

Other consideration is setup.

Our tent has a sloped side where the brother inlaw has a straight side - yes there are two different brands so not apple v apple. The thing is our tent is easier to setup (less poles).

That said if I had the choice I would choose straight side and suck up the extra 5 mins of setup.

Yeah I think I'll wait till January and get the straight wall tent.

I never seasoned the tent properly, not enough to time and room.
I do get a bit of seepage on the roof, mainly the kids room at the last roof pole before the sloping wall.  I also get a bit where the kids room velcros on.  I've never had an issue with the zippers, or at least enough worth noticing.

At most, I could see there being only 2 more upright poles then the current setup.

if the extra space is in the top corner where you never use anyway, I'd get the trailer now and enjoy it.

This is how much you loose. The bottom of the triangle is 80cm. Things like the kids bunks and fold up cupboards sit about 50cm from the corner.

Thanks for the help guys. I kind of like the look of the sloping walled tent better for some reason. I might see if they can hold onto one and I'll go and have a look when they actually get a straight wall one in stock. Maybe it's worth waiting if they offer a longer warranty on the new one as well?

Everyone has different needs, but one of my mates has sloping slides but they also use bunk beds for the kids. So due to the slop the bunks can’t fit nicely in the corner which does waste much needed space.

Also storm flaps over all the zippers is a great thing as it helps reduce the leak in a good storm as zips do leak.

Mine has a "gusset" built in to the kitchen side so the above kitchen side is straight.
