Blue Mountains site seeing
« on: September 24, 2015, 04:29:22 PM »
In a week myself and the family are off on a road trip for 2 weeks. Part of that is spending a week at Shoalhaven Heads. Apart from visiting The Bride's Family we're looking at other stuff to do. What walking trails or particular places of interests are there in the Blue Mountains? I know there's a few Cave sites. Are they accessible? No problem if it's off track (in a Patrol) but nothing too crazy in a 4x4  track sense.

Cheers in advance

100's of walking trails in the blue mountains. How much time do you have? There is everything from 1hr walks to 5 day treks. Jenolan caves would be my pick if you have never been there. Easy access, food accomodation etc, with plenty of choices in cave tours.

In katoomba you could do something like, walk down from 3 sisters to the valley and up the other side via the railway. Heaps of choices in that area and will depend on fitness and time.

The  steepest railway and skyway at scenic world at Katoomba is pretty cool, well worth a visit.

Cheers Oldmate.........Pm would be good, I'll reply when I get home - I'm wasting the last 20 mins of the day on here at work.
We'll be based in Shoalhaven Heads so accommodation isn't a problem. Have heard of Jenolan Caves and will take a look.

Cheers Millzzy. Will check it out.

If heading to Jenolan Caves then a drive out along to Kanangra Boyd Nat Park to the end of the road [dirt] then with a walk out along the Kanangra walls plateau is a must. We have had 2 lots of Canadian folk visit this year and living in the Mountains we took them to the various sites but by far the most special place has been Kanangra especially as there are no "tourist" out there.

If you're going to be based in Shoalhaven Heads, it will be a long drive up to the blue mts...even longer out to Jenolan caves..

If you only intend to make a day trip out of it, then the 3 sisters and scenic railway etc would be my pick..

Google travel time from Shoalhaven to Katoomba to see how much time you'll have !

Rags is right. If you haven't been to Kangara walls you haven't been to one of the most special places on this earth! Make the time maybe a overnighter at caves house? Shipley plateau is another with stupid great views ! This is a place Darwin took the time to visit 150+ yrs ago!
Here for a good time, not a long time!
