Thanks everyone for their help. I have been slack and not updated.
We ended up going to Bribie - at the last minute Hubby ended up having to work on the Friday so we did not get away as early as we wanted. We left the boat at home due to the unexpected change but lucky enough a guy hubby works with was taking his down on the Saturday and invited us to join them for a fish.
The park itself is at a great spot, straight across the road from the beach. Unfortunately the park is not for me. I have stayed in a couple now since we had the van but this is the first 'city' park we have been to. It was extremely packed, we had been told there would be room on the site for the boat also but their was hardly any room for the van and ute let alone a boat. The vans were literally right against each other, there was even a van parked lengthways at out back so the three vans formed a U. This also meant we had a view of vans and the toilet block only.
We were directly across from the amenities block which was handy except for all the grey nomads coming home from the bowls club at all hours. Each group stopped for a pit stop and their friends chatted outside our van while waiting. This made fro some very disrupted night. lol
Hubby, son and I got to go fishing on the boat which was quite an adventure, until November last year I had never been on a boat at all except when I was 10 whale watching. I freely admit I am a little hooked. (No pun intended.) Unfortunately not much was biting and at lunch the little fella and I left hubby to it. They went further out for the rest of the day.
The next day hubby went out and they went over to Morton which was pretty exciting for him. The little one and I explored Bribie. The first beach we went to had gooey 'things' all over it, hundreds of them, I was not sure if they were stingers or not so didn't risk it, off we went again. My boy really wanted to go swimming but it was ssssssoooooo cold. Excitingly enough, we SAW DOLPHINS. Yah, that was pretty cool. After cooking lunch, we had literally dropped a line when hubby rang to say they were back. We tried fishing near a park and then just on dark the three of us tried fishing off the wall. No luck but when there are about 30 people fishing in a small area I didn't expect much to happen.
The next day we scrambled around packing up and then succumbed to the begging of a 7yo who so much wanted to swim. We headed over to the other side of the island and let him swim in the surf. He loved it. We ended up leaving there when we should have been getting home. Ooops.
All in all, it was heaps of fun but we will keep looking for another spot. Hervey bay is the next venture I think. We probably wont get a chance to even think about it until after Christmas but I can't wait.
