Hello from Brisbane
« on: June 03, 2015, 10:17:50 PM »
G'day all..  We are long time campers who have been 'round the island a couple of times. Bought an Oztent when they first came out, and have been very happy campers. We didn't want to drag a trailer across the Gibb River Road, or up to Cape York, or up to Cape Leveque.
But age is catching up with us, so the thought of being able to arrive, and NOT have to set up bedding (stretchers, mattresses, and sleeping bags) is starting to appeal.
We are looking for a hard floor CT, so is easy to set up like the Oztent. Also would like independent suspension so it rides well. Our 1999 D20 Navara is well set up with 100L water, electric pump, 120AH solar driven battery, 50L Waeco, kitchen drawers, etc, but most of that is likely to be duplicated in the CT so there you go..... May have to replace the ole girl as well.
Any ideas are welcome...

G'day and welcome to myswag.  Good luck with your search for a CT.  Have heard lots of good things about the Ecomate.  Plenty of info on here, just need to search.

Happy camping

Welcome Notle! There's some great information on here - happy reading. Plenty of great campers available that will do just what you want. Its probably worth hiring or trying out in some way before you buy.

Personally I'd put the Ultimate high on that list... but then I'm biased!

Welcome Notle,

This is a great place to find info, all you need do is ask, and post pics of what you get......

Have you thought about a Hybrid,

I am in the early stages of building my first Hybrid/Crossover and it is very exciting..

Please do not be afraid to ask anything, there are plenty of people here to help out.

Thanks one and all for your welcoming introduction to this forum.

Well, the Brisbane caravan show got us hook line and sinker. A very well built, electrically operated hard floor camper was on show from an Albury manufacturer, Mountain Trail Campers, and we fell for it. As easy to put up as an Oztent, built for off road, with a lot of extras which we didn't think we needed, but eventually got (WHAT - HOT WATER ????)

Cost a lot more than we intended to spend - but hey, you can't take it with you !!!! So we will make a lot of use of it. Will do a trip along the Savannah way soon (in July). As soon as we get the tow vehicle (A new Colorado) Poor old Gwendolyn, the old D22 Navara, will be put out to pasture on eBay or Gumtree. Will suit a young kid who wants to go bush bashing in a cheap but reliable 4x4).

Will spend some time now looking round the other postings on this forum to get as much good info as poss about towing... Thank again for your welcome.

We have a forward fold hard floor camper, definitely worth a look, there are a few models out there. We have had a rear fold one and our forward fold is a lot better.  Good luck
