Needing a larger vehicle...

So with three kids and a dog, our Nissan Maxima is overdue to be replaced. We were thinking about a new Triton dual cab but until the Mrs goes back to work in a couple of years I think we'll need to do with a more affordable used vehicle. Just having a look around some car yards we spied a 2008 Tarago with 165000kms on it. Being a Toyota I don't see this being a great deal of k's. Anything in particular to look out for in these? It's a 4cyl auto.

They have a very good reputation and surprisingly frugal on fuel given what they are.

If it were my coin I would go to the auctions.  There are a some good ex fleet ones now and then.

Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival. Bear in mind to avoid the early Carnivals that had a problem with the (Rover copy I think?) motor crapping itself due to the cylinder liners coming loose in the block. That put a lot of prospective owners off but the later ones are reliable as the industry leading 7 yr Kia warranty attests nowadays.

Assume you don't want to spend as much as $31k on road for an MN Triton auto dual cab at present?

PS found this from a mech re carnival motors-
,pre 2008 models with the rover 2.7 litre v6 are rubbish stay clear of them.2.9 litre turbo diesel are a Mercedes engine , the 3.8 litre v6 are the old Mitsubishi 380 motors.i have not come across any mechanical problems with these models

The Mrs took it for a drive yesterday and loved it. I went over it pretty well and it'd had every scheduled service according to the logbook. Drove well, quiet, didn't feel like a truck and we were offered a couple of grand more for the Maxima than I was expecting. Long story short the Mrs has a new vehicle. She's happy so that has to be good, right???

Taragos are the pick of them and mileage is a very rough guide indeed for any vehicle. Can't beat people movers for a family team with their sliding door access and they're a pleasant surprise as far as driveability and comfort goes, for those coming off sedans and expecting a truck like drive as you say. Enjoy.
