soft floor campers zips and kids
« on: May 30, 2015, 10:01:32 PM »
Hi guys just wanting to ask a question for a friend they are looking at getting a soft floor camper and have a 2.5 year old who can open zips. Wanting to know what those with young kids do to make sure they stay inside safe at night. I mentioned that the mesh door on ours the zips can be done up together at the top are most like this or what do others do.

Mine are like yours, but you could use a small padlock as most have 2 zips you could padlock together.

That is something I have suggested joining the zips either lock or tie something through them

We simply make sure that the door's zipper "handles" are left at the top so the kids can't reach them. (Mine are now 5 & 7 and have been camping since before they could walk)

We did the same. We've been camping since both ours were babies. Zips stored up, out of reach. Problem solved.

x3 zips at the top. I prefer not to lock or use cable ties in case we need to get out in a hurry.

That said I always keep a knife inside the tent in a known location in case we need to exit in a real hurry.

That was sort of my thinking about the locking or joining them I will let them know zips up high seem to solve it.

Zips up high and a small padlock if need be.

Sadly the padlock is more about keeping other people out than us in.

the carabiner type thingy was what I saw used on safari tents in Africa last year.

baboons have zips worked out but can't undo the screw type devices.

leave the zipper ends at the top of the door not the bottom.
Padlocks??? WTF? screw that.. if you need a spew squirt or an AGB you'd end up unloading in the tent....

I’m the opposite as we highlight our zip with a glow stick and keep it in reach. Our kids are now 7 & 9 and since they were about 2 we have being putting a small glow stick on the zip so it’s easy to find.

Even now the kids go the bed earlier than us, but they know once in bed they can only come out if something is wrong IE: Feeling sick or need to go to the toilet. (One night while sitting around the fire my daughter came racing out the tent to do a huge vomit, so I’m glad she did as that would have been horrible in the tent)

Once we are all in bed if one of the kids wants to go outside, then they always get me first manly because they are too scared to go outside by themselves.
