Calling all Sunshine Coast Swaggers

So I might have the opportunity to relocate from Perth to the Sunshine Coast for work. Office will be in Sippy Downs at the Uni.

Can any of the locals ( or anyone that knows the area ), please comment on areas to look for a house ? We're a family of four, home schooling, so school is not critical. Thanks in advance !

Whats ya budget mate and what type of property are you looking for i.e. do you want to live near the beach, river, bush, acreage etc etc

Budget.. no idea.. let's say 550 / week ? 4/2/2 type setup ? Ideal place.. acreage on the beach with a creek running through it ...

Seriously.. currently I'm 5 mins from the beach.. something similar would be good.. but I wouldn't mind swapping that for an acreage and a 20 minute drive to the beach.

What I'm really after I guess is something in the line of.. stay away from suburb xxx cause all the South Africans  live there.... this and that street are known hoon raceways    I need to make a decision over the weekend, just need any info that can help !

lets just say take whatever advice nomad gives, others will atest, if you are looking for real-estate advice on the sunshine coast he's your man (i.e he works in the industry!

Although we live most days in the NSW Blue Mts , we are fortunate to have a 2nd base on the Sunny Coast at Twin Waters that we try to get there every 6-8 weeks for me and fortnightly for the wife. It is a short 5 min trip from Mudjimba Beach which we think it is one of the nicest beaches on the Coast, located on the North Shore of the Maroochy River. If I had the opportunity I would love to get a place at Mudjimba as it is my fav. The demographics of the area around here is a mix of young families thru to the older retired set with others like us, 50 and kid free. We have not experience any social problems here over the last 15 years we have had the place here . It is only 5 mins to Airport which is a bonus for us and the planes don't cause much of an issues either.
It would be an easy 20min drive down motorway to the uni from around here. If it is a few acres you want then the Bli Bli or Yandina areas would be worth considering with similar travel times.
Hope you can get sorted as it is a great part of the country, Our plan is to make it our permanent base soon, once my work is sorted.

Hi Rokster,

As Firefox says I am in the industry but I do commercial real estate not residential........If you wanted to live pretty close to the Uni, and thats about 15 mins drive from Mooloolaba / Maroochydore I would have a look at suburbs like Buderim, Tanawha, Forest Glen if you want a bit of acreage, Most of the rural residential stuff up and down the highway now is pretty good so you could go as far noth as say Cooroy and south to around Palmview / Mooloolah.

If you want to get close to the beach most of the suburbs are pretty good but stay away from living on the Nicklin Way, thats the main connector road between Caloundra and Mooloolaba and is very busy.

Theres no real bad suburbs on the coast anymore, most went through some urban renewal in the boom of 2003 with young families purchasing in areas like Pacific Paradise and Bli Bli, which were previously considered to be a bit ordinary. There are still some fringe areas that you wouldnt want to live in but you can avoid those pretty easily.

We're on the southern end of the coast, Moffat beach. You'll find going acreage will be a bit remote and driving some distance to schools and shops so try and stick to a 10k radius of Maroochydore or Caloundra. Also depends on where you want to send the kids to school, can't comment on the public system but most private school are pretty good if you have the coin.
If you want close to the uni try mountain creek/ budrim on the north side from uni and currumundi / aroona to the south. Generally these areas are more established and have larger blocks with plenty of room. rent in these areas should be in your range

Yea you won't find anything sizeable near the beach...the whole coastal strip is either small blocks or parks, for easy access to the uni i rate palmwoods/ilkley/tanawha etc we live on an acreage near woombye and have been looking for a bigger acreage for about 5 years on and off, so there is not a road we don't know about, there really isnt a dud area on the coast! can't comment about rental prices prices tho

Sunny coast is my pick for living in qld, close to bris but far enough away, fraser is just up the road, work generally is pretty steady, for a quick retreat from the Camry masses teewah beach is just a ferry trip away, dunno if there is another place I would rather be based!
