Suggested return route would be......Tamworth-Armidale-Wollomombi-West Kunderang (2 days min)-Grafton-Kingscliff.
Just my thoughts ;D

Personally I would go to Grafton then Glen Armidale Tamworth. The road from Casino to Tenterfield was a dogs breakfast last time I drove it.

If you dont mind a bit of twisty hilly stuff, usualy little traffic, the way we go down to family at Armidale is : Exit 3.30am Tweed > Grafton [ aprox 2 hrs ] fuel / brekky . Grafton > nymboider  > ebor >  Woollo > Armidale [ aprox 2.5 hrs ] then onto Tamworth [ from memory another 2+hrs ]   roughly  410 klm to  Armidale ..on map if you go straight from Tweed to Grafton > Armidale

And tow the expanda so I can do it next month.  Or not.  Depending on the outcome!

We lived in Tamworth and when we would head back to our folks place in Casino and Evans Head.
We tried all possible routes.

Tamworth, Armidale, Ebor, Grafton was the quickest and the road isn't to bad.

As for Grafton north I'm not 100%.

I would probably head Casino, Lismore, Ballina. Just so I don't have to drive the Grafton to Ballina part of the Pacific Hwy.

G'day Dave,
I'd go down the Pacific Hwy to Grafton, then from Grafton take the Armidale rd to Armidale then Tamworth,
Google Maps
Last time I traveled the Armidale Rd it was good, not as wide as the main H/ways tho, but still a good drive.
Hope this helps.
