If the family tree is English or British, you'll find it easier then mainland Europe.

My wife excels at this, but don't ask me.
Taught her self german to find 1 side of the family.
The work which goes into it is incredible, especially if there is a war or 2 in it.......

You may find a friend has access to the online site but don't use it all, you can get them to find things for you to save a few $. The wife has a little scam going with other folk to save some coin this way from various sites around the world.

Swmbo is into this big time.
She showed me a picture of her family tree once and it looked like Sherwood forest.
I asked to look up mine one time.
Her response was " why?  You know your tree dont fork"  ;D
She can be so cruel sometimes...
