Camping at Lake Burrendong - Easter
« on: March 17, 2015, 06:43:09 PM »
The missus has decided that we're towing the boat somewhere this Easter long weekend...

After scanning the map of NSW she decided that Lake Burrendong was the go, it's within 5 hours drive of Sydney and can fish there...

Called the State Recreation park there, they said the lake is only 15%.

Anyone been there recently?

what's the camping, fishing, things to see like in the area?
Hows the water level in the lake, if it's down to 15% or so is it still ok for launching a boat, snags trees sand/ mud bars etc...

Thanks
ATC

So being an ex local I can say that 15% is still alot of water. The dam is about twice the size of Sydney Harbour. But it may be a longish way from the camping to the water. It's a nice place, there is a shop at the campground milk ice ect. For beer you need to go to Mumble or Stuart town. You can do the Wellington caves, and there is a botanical garden near the dam. If your keen for a drive Dubbo Zoo is about 1h from the dam. But if your out in the boat you'll have lots of exploring to do at that level there will be lots of little waterways to fish.
Chris.

There is a fishing competition on there over Easter so there will be a lot of campers there, the fishing has been pretty good and even at 15% there is still a lot of water there. When you go through the boom gate turn right and then turn right again and follow the road around and then turn left onto a pretty rough track it will take you down to the waters edge where there is good grassed areas to camp on. If you go around the other side it is all rocky and not good for camping although plenty camp there. If you wanted to camp up in the camping area I would ring first because they get a lot there for the fishing comp.
