Mobile equipment swipe tags
« on: August 03, 2015, 12:45:00 PM »
Looking for some information as to what is available in the way of swipe tags for mobile equipment and door locks.

What I am after is a system for work that has everyone's details on it and hooked up with training records so someone who is competent can swipe their tag and it will let the machine start. As well as be hooked up to door locks so only certain people can have specific access to certain parts of the plant.
Cant really find anything that does both applications.
Is there any system out there that will do this.

Thanks Bully

Fixed machines or mobile eg Bobcats, bulldozers?

Not really my area of tech, but RFID Tags are common for this kind of application You'll need a tag, a reader, a database and some software to control it. If the machines are mobile, then complexity is added.. Eg you need to transmit back to central database or hold a local copy on each machine that also needs to be updated at some point eg when in range.

That's about my knowledge.  You can get all levels at all cost points from industrial plant/office building scale to DIY

Something like this:

Or the DIY solution:

Intelifleet might be able to do that. We have them on our vehicles and Plant but not Buildings.

They will be on bobcats, forklifts front end loader, water truck and sweeper truck. these trucks are only medium vehicles.
But the idea is the machine wont start if you are not authorized to do so. It will also log if someone has tried to start a vehicle.
As well as tell me if someone has entered a office they are not authorized to be in.

We have used a couple of systems for forklifts, but these have been forklift manufacturer specific systems (fleetsafe and forktrack I think they were called). Had the ability to be PINs or swipe fobs. The problem we had was dealing with people swapping fobs. The branch managers were unwilling to write the guys up for doing it so never were that effective. That is until I got access to the system and started deactivating the fobs and refusing to reactivate them until I saw evidence of the written warnings from HR  >:D I was even less popular after that!

Where I work we have a clock card that gets us in the gate , lets qualified people have Forklift access , lets certain people into the central store , and into certain offices after hours and even the photo copier to print colour so it can be done.

A company i worked for had an electronic key safe that worked quite well.

You swiped your proximity card to open the key safe, and then based on your permissions you could only remove certain keys as each key was locked in a slot and could only be returned to the same slot.

The system automatically logged who took what key(s) and what time and they returned it. You could remove and return keys in any order as long as you were entitled to the key.

The key boxes themselves were under camera surveillance.
