Strapping stuff on top of the travel cover.

Do others tie stuff down on top of their soft floor travel cover when travelling? I haven't done I before and wondered if there are any issues. I realise it's probably not ideal, but am out of options for packing for this trip. I did quickly try to search, but had trouble trying to work out what to search for.

This Easter I've got a new solar panel I haven't sorted out a space for yet, and thought I'd take advantage of the sun while driving. I haven't yet set up charging from the car. Also got a couple of bags of firewood that I don't know where else to fit other than on top of everything. Will strap them down with some soft/packing materials between the item and the cover.

It would ruin your weekend to wear a rub hole in the cover just for a few bags of wood...

If your battery is charged when you leave home it should be all good for the drive unless your going non stop across the country.

Slip the solar under the mattress for the trip to keep it safe.

And I strap my wood bag on top of my front box on the drawbar, no rubbing on the cover.

We have never had any troubles with gear on the travel cover, pack it carefuly and prevent against chaffing IE:  those foamy camping flooring squares, your travel cover should be fairly heavy duty vinyl ..all we ever used is a stretchy cargo net and ratchit straps .. plenty of movement on the whoopty doo's out the tracks and up the beaches .. thinking you may not get much charge out of  the solar if you have straps running over it ..
Only pic I have is  with small light gear on top .

+1...  have seen a couple of threads on here about people actually fashioning racks for just this purpose to store wood on the toolbox...

i would never put in on the cover.

Not enough room over my toolbox for the firewood, the bike rack sits over the top, and there is a small solar panel on the toolbox too. I might get one bag of wood in front of the spare behind the stone guard.

Foam mats for protection are a good idea, think I will run with that. I was thinking I'd get a pool noodle and zip tie it onto the panel frame. Foam mats will be better for the firewood.

Will put some slots in the solar panel frame and strap through there to hold it down without covering the cells. For the return trip I might slip it under the mattress as a good suggestion, but I'm not keen on unpacking the tent to do so before leaving!

I'm going to have to rethink for future trips.

Get an old bit of carpet and lay it face down on the cover then you will be right

I have done this many times, and have never damaged either the cover or the tent under the cover.

I do carry two fold up tables and two sets of solar panels on top of the tent but under the cover, and have many times cut fire wood on the way into a camping area and tied it down on top of the cover. If it can't move it can,t chafe.

A good reason to carry your firewood on top of the trailer and not the tool box is it is easy to have 3 bags of servo purchased wood at 20kg each. It would be better to have them over the axle than on the tow ball.
