Travel, Adventure DVD's
« on: August 18, 2014, 09:38:52 PM »
Ok so I struggle now days to watch normal TV, but quite enjoy travel DVD's.

I currently have all the Gall boy DVD's, All 4 Adventure s1-4, The Big Lap, Bush Tucker Man and a few others. I also buy 4wd Action for the DVD's but am starting to get sick of the weekender trips out of Sydney as I don't have a lot of interest in that area. I also tried the Caravan and Motorhome DVD's but they are solely marketed towards the grey nomad because clearly no-one else travels around Aust ::)

What DVD's do other people have or recommend?

Been trying to get all the Leyland brothers early stuff, actualy got in touch with some one that knows the family once .. still no luck on getting the footage released ..
If you get in touch with Stan, he has some early Cape / Fraser and Birdsville etc Adventure off road videos that he did with a bunch of Gold Coast guys in the 80's thats been put onto DVD's [ about 10 all up ] .. He is  Natalie Gruzlewski the TV presenters father .. just bear in mind that video production back then was very basic, but still a good watch ..
If want to compare the Cape trip dvd  that 4wd action raved about that hadnt been done for 30 years, with the guys that did that section  30 years ago video / dvd .  get in touch with Stan here[  http://www.goldcoastbd.com.au/company/Adventure-Video-Productions-Stan-And-Robyne-Gruzlewski_362/        ] https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-V8vRK4AxZuUp2O-FOhMUQ
Ron and viv moon have some good stuff too http://www.guidebooks.com.au/videos.htm
And who could forget Malcom Douglas.. http://www.malcolmdouglas.com.au/shop/scditem.asp?ProdID=5

I had forgotten about the offroad adventure ones with Stan and Bob. I have copies of them I will have to dig out for another look.
They are good for a watch, no BS advertising all the way through like the modern stuff. As you said bit basic, but you gotta keep in mind what was available technology wise at the time.

The trip down to Captain Billy's landing was a good one.

Yeah Stan is Natalie's father, I think Natalie was on the Fraser Island one from memory (only a young girl then).

The gall boys are good, and all 4 Adventure. Gave up on the 4wd action, just all paid advertising.

I think Jack absolom did a couple to show to could do remote travel in a 2wd car (birdsville track/ect) not really 4wd though.

Would be great to get some of the leyland brothers stuff. Remember watching them as a kid.

What about Alby Mangels? He travelled most of the world, but there were a few filmed in and around the Top End and the Outback(I think).

I believe Jamie Sadlier has started filming his own.

'Lets see if we can't get you outa here'

Classic stuff Russell coight.

I must admit though, the first time i seen an episode it took me about 15 mins to work out if it was a pi$$ take or a really bad attempt at a serious show!

I ended up buying the Laurie Kibble ones. They're watchable I guess, good to see some places not usually covered in DVD's. Be good to see more than just a windscreen camera.

I bought so even ebay that had frank "thommo " Thompson doing the cape and outback NSW (Ivanhoe to menidee with a cub). Also a group of queenslanders doing the cape in the early 80's

The malcolm Douglass DVDs are superb but exy.
Here for a good time, not a long time!
