Last minute Snowy's Stop

Hey guys

We are travelling back to Melbourne with our new Ecomate trailer. And we had planned a trip to Tumut. However, due to the heat (and the fact our kids don't do hot well) we have been staying in caravan parks with pools!

That was on the plan again for Tumut however my wife and I are going a bit crazy with the Caravan park experience (or lack thereof) and want to get a little bush camping under the Ecomate's belt (which is our favourite sort of camping).

So are there any good bush campsites that you could point us to in the Snowy's? We will be in Tumut for Thursday and Friday nights, may extend the stay is it's really nice.

Was thinking Buddong Falls however am open to any other suggestions!

Hey Steve, which way will you be heading from Tumut? There's some reasonable bush camping on the back of Talbingo Reservoir near where Eliots Way swings close, but it's heading away from the Hume Hwy.

There are some great camp grounds along the foreshore of Blowering dam along the snowy mts hwy between Tumut and Talbingo, or if you head south thru Tumbarumba you could head down to some of the camp areas along the upper Murray river, and also another nice camp can be found at Paddys river dam or Paddys river falls both found out from Tumbarumba. You are in some great country to find some nice camps.

Cheers guys! We are headed south, have to be on he ferry on the 7th of November, however want to go up and do the caves and see the sumit (something that the kids want to do). Considering we are 3,500k's into this trip, we don't mind the miles!

Heaps along the side of Blowering Dam.   My favourite is Three Mile Dam, near the turn off to Mt Selwyn ski resort (near  Kiandra).    So many good spots on the way to Kozi. Stop by Yarrangobilly to visit the caves.   Geehi and Tom Groggi are classics.  Or you can stay in closer at places like 'the diggings'  or 'ngarigo' on the road between Thredbo and Jindy.

Yarrangobilly is not a village as such... it's just by the Snowy Mountains Highway where it crosses the Yarrangobillly River and is a good place to camp. The road out to Rules Point also has some good spots (but not as good for hot weather swimming opportunities).

Three Mile Dam and Ravine are great places to camp, as is Paddys River Falls. Eucumbene River near Kiandra is good (again, where the SMH crosses the river - if heading for Adaminaby you turn right just before the bridge over the river).

Elliot Way along the Tumut River has HEAPS of spots to camp. There's also places along the road from Cabramurra to Khancoban, but again you need a bit of local knowledge along there to find the places to swim.

Providence Portal and Tantangra Dam both offer camping areas.

I grew up in Cabramurra in the seventies, that part of the world is very special to me

Jounama Creek....opposite Talbingo turnoff, swimming in the creek, nice and cool if the temps get up down at sea level.

Hey guys! Thank you so much for the input. We didn't get to the Ravine (22k in was a little too much) but really chuffed with the Village campsite! Is awesome! Heading for Tom Groggin tomorrow for a couple of nights on the above suggestions.

Tas, it is a nice drive into Yarrangobilly Caves, only a few klms further along from the Village. It is a one way road and when you come back up The Snowy Hwy, Long Plain Road is on your right and goes to Coolamine Homestead which has some interesting old buildings with walls lined with old newspaper. Also goes to Blue Water Holes. Enjoy your trip.

How was it? The river is nice and low at the moment, so you shouldn't have any trouble crossing.

With the moon out it was a pretty easy crossing last night
