Useful apps for phones and tablets
« on: September 19, 2014, 08:05:57 PM »
Hey, I thought I would create this thread to share ideas about apps you use on your phone/tablet that might be useful to the camper trailer fraternity.  I don't think it matters whether you're on Apple or Android as the bulk of decent apps are available on both and if they're not there will be something similar. I'll start with a couple I have installed:

Australian Red Cross First Aid - the name says it all but pretty important in the bush.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cube.gdpc.aus&hl=en

Tire Size - lets you compare different size tyres to see what variations will fit etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aimenrg.tyrecalc&hl=en

Pocket Weather Australia - a good weather app by an Australian developer, has a quick link to severe weather warnings and radars which I like.
https://appsto.re/au/E81JG.i

Wunderlist - this To-Do List app lets you create handy lists that are great to help plan your next trip by creating packing list etc.  because it's cloud based your spouse etc can add to and create seperate lists that you can then modify. It's all platforms and can be accessed by any browser.

I think my best app is the remote live
Mrs just points her phone at the hitch and I see it all on my phone from the drivers seat

Shows what digital channels you should see as well.

My wife wants an app to help with her wine drinking!
She has problems with some preservatives in some wines and needs an app that tells you if it contains these when you take a pic of the label.
So far I haven't found one.

Peel Tv remote has my vote. It's fun to watch the publican turn his tv's off multiple times with that look of "I'm sure I just did that".
Evernote is a great note app and Jorte a great calendar Working on Google.

For kids Maths. we use Apptutor.

I love this program and is self teaching. Although the kids can use it without help, it is one of our "Dad and Daughter" time for us. We do it in the morning and afternoon most days.

I hated Maths but since I started on the first in the series (Grade 1) I'm starting to get better with "math strategies".

My daughter is 7yr and starting grade 3 geometry, fractions, dealing with hundreds of thousands and equations & variables. Actually I'm learning it all over again.

I find it makes such a boring subject fun and I get hassled to do it?

10/10 for us.

Pic is of Grade 1 subtraction that turns subtraction into "Think addition".

Emergency + , tells you where you are and can call 000 from within the app. Very handy when you are on the road and do not really know exactly where you are.

Hi,
I'll second Wikicamps, downloaded it the other day and paid up within minutes on seeing what it will do.
Being able to see (and filter) what  is near either your location, or a point is brilliant.
It is serious competition to the hard copy.
Cheers

Wiki camps is great.  I've been using it for just on 2 years.  I've added reviews on site and even added a few spots myself.  I haven't open my camp 6 book since getting the app. We are driving down to the blue mountains and back for about 10days total and I have used it to plan most of our stays.

Good app.

Cant help with a preservative identifying App but I would recommend your wife try SO2GO.

There is info on their web site as to where to get it. It works for me and various family members who also react to preservatives in wine and other drinks.
