Summer Nats.. Alice Springs..
« on: October 27, 2014, 10:06:45 AM »
wonder how this will go...

Quote
From territory to territory, Canberra's famous auto festival Summernats will head to Alice Springs in 2015, according to Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles.

In a statement released on Sunday, Mr Giles' office said the event - dubbed Red CentreNATS - will transform the city into "a rev head's paradise" and will be held from September 3-6 next year.

Summernats co-owner Andy Lopez said he was "really proud to be working with the Northern Territory Government to deliver a brand new automotive lifestyle festival in the heart of Australia".

Mr Giles said the event will aim to emulate the atmosphere of the Canberra festival. "Anyone who has ever been to Canberra's Summernats will know just how popular the event is and the Country Liberals Government is working to create the same sort of loyal following for our own Territory version of the event here in Central Australia," Mr Giles said.

The territory already holds motoring events such as the V8 Supercars in Darwin and the Finke Desert Race in Central Australia.

Red CentreNATS steering committee member John Palamountain said he hoped the event would cement the territory's reputation as a centre for motorists.

"The Red CentreNATS will certainly put the Northern Territory in the minds of many Australians and at the same time putting the Territory on centre stage as a complete Motorsport venue," Mr Palamountain said.

This is not the festival's first trip out of the ACT, with the festival expanding to Malaysia this year.

Summernats will continue to be held in Canberra, with five years left in the organisers deal with the ACT government. The event will take place again in the ACT from January 1 in 2015.

I haven't been since 1993.  :'(
Would be good to see an event like this take off. Would be a better time of year for many also given family commitments around Christmas time.
Also hoping the mob in Toowoomba get the funding to build the new racetrack up there.
Certainly couldn't be any worse than the abomination that is Ipswich raceway.

Summernats will still be in the ACT for the next 5 years as well ( this is how long the current contract with ACT government has to run).

Alice Redcentrenats is an additional show to the Summernats.
