Very sad....BUT...!

While not wanting to take anything away from the tragic death of the pilot, it amazes me that the residents are now complaining about planes flying over their homes.  Sorry...but the airport has been there for years, long before you chose to build your house there.

Its like people who move into a house near an airport and start whinging about the noise..!

Media beatup  up mate, happens all the time. A group of johny come latelies down here nearly got the Tyab Airshow cancelled a couple of years ago because of the noise for 4 days a year. The show has been going for more than 30 years and is the biggest vintage aircraft show in the southern hemisphere

Manipulation of the Media

Yes, manipulation of the media which needs news “24hrs a day” by various activist and do-gooder  groups is never ending.  The media now are so desperate, “twitter” / social media is searched and forms part of their “News/commentary”.

With this in mind and not wishing to take anything away from misery caused by the current Ebola crisis. The sensationalizing of the crisis by every “interest group” is staggering and the media love it and in their defense need it.

In Brisbane we have a suburb called Fortitude Valley and it’s only 2kms from the CBD. For years it was run down but it was the place all the bands played in the local pubs. Since then it’s started to be developed and becoming the hip/trendy place to live.

I remember a couple of years ago the city council making a public address to all the new residents who are moving into the area saying don’t bother complaining about the noise as the council have deemed this area as suitable for bands to play. So they basically said if you don’t want to hear music in the distance, don’t move there.

Good on the council I say.

Pity our mob couldn't take a lesson from them.
Our rifle range was built (1900's) well outside town and the airport beyond that (1950's).
Since the 80's when housing was built beyond the range the council has been making noises about the range having to relocate due to noise complaints and safety issues.
Mind you it was the council that allowed the airport runway to be built at 90 degrees to the orientation of the range and when I started using the range in the 90's the local rule was no firing during take off and landings.

Wheres the fun in that !! ;D
Australian Aerobatics champion David Lowey did a deal with Temora council when he wanted to set up his Warbird Museum there. He would develope the lands around the airfield into housing estates on the proviso of a covenent on building / buying  there you have to sign,  that the airfield is an active one and you cant complain about noise or shut it down.
Smart move ..

NSW state Gov also I believe introduced laws which limit objections where the home owner should have been aware the "pub and the like" was there

We had the same in Holland.
Neighbours of a swimmingpool were complaining insummer about the kids playing outside.
The pool lost and closed. It was there before these neighbours moved in.

Somewhere else city slickers moved to the country, fresh air etc. When the farmer came out and fertilised his fields with fersh manure they started complaing about the smell.
They won.......

Not sure if it was NIMBYS that caused the closure of Oran Pk,  but rather a  combination of operating costs, including safety upgrades and Eastern ck offering an alternative  venue, balanced against an owners group making a commercial decision that 1000's of 400sq/m blocks of land at $350k plus. Amaroo pk  was a bit of both ,Catalina Pk owned by a green council had no hope being a NIMBYS community, where the residence are still waiting for a Macca's.
