Some more info pls
« on: October 06, 2009, 03:31:34 PM »
Hey Guys,

Can you help me out with some more info. Planing my trip down and home again.

Location details of Kylies @ Crowdy Head NP.

Do I need to book a site?

What is the road like from Tamworth to Port Macquaire? Navara towing camper freindly? Looks twisty on the map.

Thats all for now..  8)
Cheers
Brett

G'day Brett Kylies is not bookable its first in, to get to the camp area you need to get to Diamond head and travel south past the headland and turn in towards the beach.Try google earth for Diamond Head, the camp area is not in focus but seeable on the access road to the top end of Crowdy Head Beach. The trip from Bendemeer  to the Coast is not a bad road a bit narrow at times and has about 160ks of winding road (mostly downhill) which will keep the power steering warmed up but it is a drive that I do enjoy particularly with a bit of Hp under the lid. I do a fair bit of work over in Tamworth. I prefer to come over the Walcha mountain (Oxley Hwy) through Wauchope and down the Pacific Hwy via Bago Road to home which is just across the road to Crowdy Bay NP.

If you went this way just turn left at Kew to go through Laurieton then over the Dunbogan bridge to Diamond Head. If coming in from Laurieton you will pass three camp grounds. Diamond Head, Indian Head and the last is Kylies. Kylies is the South most camp ground.

The Oxley Hwy over Walcha mountain is quite twisty and slow going but is only say 45mins from the begining to the end of it than its back to open roads.

For all the people coming from south you don't need to turn at Kew and go through Laurieton. There is a right hand turn at the Moorland corner store (on the Pacific Hwy) that takes you straight to Kylies first.

As Barnray has said its first in first served there.

Gronk, is this the way you mentioned? That is a lot quicker when coming from south.

No one need be concerned about space, bookings etc, there will be enough of us there early enough to secure the majority of the site

If there are going to be a few people there Thursday I might see if I can get there Thursday evening as well. Bit more daylight now to setup.

This Whereis link also has a fairly good map of Crowdy Bay National Park and its surounding areas and roads.

There'll be no daylight by the time we get there, just keen to get away so we'll leave Sydney after work on Thursday. I'd guess we'll be there before midnight.

Set up in the dark, then enjoy a long weekend by the beach with all the good folk of MySwag.org.

Don't forget.....as soon as you can,..go over to Diamond Head and pay for your site.....they have signs up to pay 1st before setting up ( or at least they did have )

Whats with all this google stuff ??  ;D ;D...get out your trusty map ( remember that paper stuff !! ) and look up the directions to Diamond Head ( Kylies is only 1K from it )

As Laith said, for the southerners......turn off at Moorland ( big sign saying Crowdy Bay Nat Park )...when it turns to dirt, follow it for a while and when it comes to an intersection, turn left and follow it for a fair bit and keep a lookout for the Kylies turnoff ( its only 1/2 a K from the main track ).....if you happen to miss it, don't stress, you will come across the Diamond Head turnoff.....just turn around and backtrack a K ( or 2 )

If I go through Harrington is the camping ground easy to find?  I remember seeing Diamond Head but not Kylies when I was up there last?

I need to go through Harrington to pick up a beach pass and check something out at the caravan park on the way through.

I'd imagine there is not a whole lot of (major) tracks around there, so it shouldn't hard to find from Diamond Head, sign posted even I'm betting.

I won't be rushing up to grab a camp permit, might wander up on Friday, but as we'll be arriving after dark on Thursday that's got to be a freebie.

I'd say the same for most. If everyone who does call in is friendly and talks about how much we've planned etc, it would be hard to think they'd be hunting for folks not doing the right thing.
