hi from SA
« on: April 11, 2014, 10:30:14 PM »
hi, i have been sneaking around the site for the last couple of months and thought id better say Gday!
my wife and I have 3 boys of 3, 2 & 2 (think about it) and run our farm north of Adelaide. It seems we have been gradually getting busier lately so with the aid of info gleaned from this site we recently purchased a 2nd hand challenge outback deluxe camper. The idea is to have the camper set up and ready to roll so that at the drop of a hat, we can pack the fridge and a bag and shoot through for a couple of days with the kids, as well as a longer trip or two during the year.
I looked at a few campers but liked the strong build quality of the challenge, being SA built was also a necessity. It has a 14ft tent to fit the rug rats in. Had a good look at johnnos (also very well built) but not a lot of choice second hand!
Before kids/responsibility/debt,etc the wife and I did a 12 month lap of OZ living in the back of an old patrol, and we loved every minute of it, so we figure this should be a good way to enjoy ourselves and time with the kids, with a little comfort and protection!
We'll be pulling it with a 2010 Pajero
Im sorry that I don't have any pics as yet but we'll test it out over Easter with a trip out to some grazing country of ours north east of Burra!
Any suggestions of short trips/locations suitable for young kids within the SA Mid North/YP/Mallee areas would be appreciated
Cheers

Welcome to myswag farmer. We bought a 2nd hand Challenge Outback Deluxe with a 14ft tent a year ago and love it.

I am sure you will have many great trips with it.

Well done , and welcome to the forum.
Went through the NE of SA in Sept 2012.
The Tourist places, like Wilpena Pound, were my stop overs.
I'm sure you'll find plenty in the Camps 6 or 7 Book.

Welcome Farmer.

On the YP - go West of Edithbourgh toward the Light House and there's heaps of room for for free Camping. be prepared for wind though.
On the YP again - Stansbury Caravan Park is great.
Mid North - I'm not telling you. We like our spots nice and quiet ;-)...........Wirrabarra Forest has a great camp ground called Ippinitchie. Is a great spot, but closed at the moment due to the fires in Jan/Feb.
Mid North also - Melrose Caravan Park. Mixture of powered sites and then across the creek for unpowered, with toilet block and kitchen. HEAPS of room and also has a BMX track for the kids and a bunch of Walking Trails and also Mountain Biking Trails. It's our favourite.
Mid North again - just outside of Quorn is Arden Hills 4x4  track. Also has a huge camping area at the beginning of the track.
One other place to try is Mount Crawford forest. Lots of choices for spots and great for the kids to walk amongst the Pine Plantation.

Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum.

Good to see another South Aussie here. It sounds like you might have a nice spot for a future SA meet.....

Look forward to seeing some shots from your Easter trip.

Cheers,
Marc

Surely it must be Photoshopped. ;-)

There's no other campers in site and the kids are sleeping neatly, with not a single item of clothing strewn about.

Looks perfect. I'm jealous.

Na, I reckon Mum said, 'Hang  on, we can't take a piccy of that mess.
And made you wait while she made it look exceptional.
