Which car wash?
« on: July 17, 2012, 10:45:01 PM »
About to wash my Jayco swan for the first time. The instruction booklet mentions dozens of chemicals not to use. The sales rep said not to use anything with ammonia or it will dull the fibreglass. Most car washes don't seem to list ingredients. I use meguiars NXT car wash on my car, is this stuff OK? What does everyone else use. ???

I have been using CT18 for a fee years now and  very happy with it, except it strips off all the polish. I picked up some regular car type wash and was amazed at how much better the CT18 is at getting off mud and grime.

CT18 on both the Camper and the Cruiser if they are really dirty.
Turtle car wash if it is just for a tub before a polish.

I used the last of my CT18 today, I do use it to wash the panels but they only get washed every few months. Should I switch to CT20 or stick with CT18? Does CT20 get rid of bugs and brake dust like CT18?

ct-18 strips much better, but that is also why i don't use it. people put this stuff on their paint.

i'd go the ct-20

I wouldn't be using CT-18 on paint work unless you intend on applying a wax or sealant afterwards, due to that it will remove any protection that was previously on it. I'm not familiar with CT-20 but gather it's more of a wash and wax, which would be much more suitable. The wax it contains would only be minimal and won't prevent having to ever wax/polish your car. Meguiars do make some good car washes and I'd tend to recommend them before the above. For softening bugs make up a diluted spray bottle with CT-18 or any truck wash and spray affected areas. Allow to soak but don't let it dry. You'll find that they will then wash off a lot easier.

Thanks all, I used to use Meguiar’s Gold Class Car Wash then switched to Zymol for my Audi's but that was when I used to spend all weekend hand detailing. Now I want quick and shiny, so the CT-20 will do :)

Now I worked for the company for 5 years  :police: but I can definitely recommend  the Septone truck washes. TW20 for a standard truck wash and TW22 for a wash & wax. Doesn't strip and is free rinsing, so if it does dry on the surface it will wash off as soon as you apply water.
I washed my company car with the TW22 then, and have continued to use it on the current company car, the Pathfinder and the Jayco, no issues. Doesn't replace a good polish but will prolong the time between polishes.
