Pension question
« on: October 01, 2013, 06:52:11 PM »
Ok I have tried centre-link site and am more confused than when I started.

If Dad is turning 65 and IS eligible for a pension but his younger de-facto still works full time what pension rate does he get (I assume ) the single rate subject to his assets and additional income of course.

What i was trying to find out is if my Dads de-factos wages are used to calculate his income or if it effects it in any way.

Loose info I know and financial matters need planners I know but figured the simple point of Dad being older and Niki being younger could be answered.

Yes her income will affect his pension entitlement, if you go to the Australian Government website
you'll find a calculator there you can use to work out his entitlement.

I think my dad got an accountant or financial planner to work it out and help him apply..

might be worth contacting financial advice if your are still having trouble....

I am just going through that exact scenario mate, I applied 2 years ago and swmbo's income was $1500 too high. This year we went to an independant financial adviser which I think cost us about $3000  :'( but as it turned out it was/is good value, our super and bank accounts have been totally restructured so we have almost no assets by centre links definition, we have both retired and will have a resonable ( we hope) income. ??? ;D Nearly everything we thought we knew was wrong :-[ and it's almost useless talking to centrelink about it because most of the people there just don't know  >:D

thanks for the reply Xcavator, I did say to Dad that we will need to attend a planner, sometimes I think he thinks I know or should know everything.

As an older immigrant I think he does not quite grasp the complexities of our systems. When I said to see a planner he looked at me like I just told him I can't butter bread LOL ;D ;D

Planner it is then  :cup: :cup:

Jet crew. As everyone has said proper advice is golden,  but in general,  for age pension all income is combined in calculating entitlements,  it is not calculated on your dad's income, but the combined income of the couple. But advise is golden, it is all about loopholes and finding as many as possible
