We ordered it at the start of August so it will be about a 6/7 weeks from order to delivery and cannot wait! It will be our first camper as we have always tent camped and when single used a swag. A recent back operation and our 9 month old boy both suggested now was a good time to move into a hard floor camper. I shouldn't have to do much heaving lifting now and the luxuries of the hardfloor (sleep & play area) and other things like hot water will come in mighty handy with the little one.
The near future will see a lot of weekenders and hopefully next Easter a 3 week road trip through Melbourne to Adelaide. We also want to do the Kimberleys and Cape when time off work permits but will probably look to get back into a tougher rig (TUG) again or hire before doing them. We have previously owned Patrols but bought the Pathfinder knowing I am past seeking out the hardest tracks, have previously done competitive 4wding, and acknowledging 99% of use is onroad.
Perhaps with low expectation, I have been quite impressed with how the Pathfinder has performed offroad to date but unsure what the campers impact both weight & ball load will be offroad. I have just installed polyairs in the rear but it is otherwise stock besides the snorkel, the "green wire mod" to disable the ECU control of alternator for charging and a dual battery setup to run the 80L Waeco that lives in the back until it gets moved into the camper.
I really want to head out to the Turon River for one of our first camping trips but, having never been before, I am conscious of the water crossings required to access the campgrounds. Is this something I should be able to do with some air out of the tires?
I am not much of a photographer but here are some videos of our typical camp setup and exploring of SA.
(This is a largely disused track and section of beach we had never traveled with patchy phone reception and only one 4wd. With this in mind we needed to be sure we could either keep going forward or be able to get back up anything we came down so hence the hesitation/consideration. Further down the beach was some of the toughest beach driving I have ever done mostly due to the steepness and narrowness between the water and the dune face.)
