My 2 cents:
1. DVD 'S will be around for a while yet, certainly longer than a cheap camping tv is likely to last. The money invested in blue ray development means the manufacturers will push it for as long as they can, and that means normal DVD will also still be available. So dont concern yourself with that aspect.
2. Had a Kogan 24" tv/dvd combo until my 4yr old son decided he could move it around the house and dropped it. The sound isnt great, but thats the same for all 12v tv's because the magnets that drive the speakers are what chew the power. I never had that much of an issue - what do you expect when camping?
Kogan you MUST have the remote to operate it as the "enter" button is strangely not included in the buttons on the actual tv.
And the dvd does not remember where you are up to if you switch to tv or turn it off - more annoying than you might think.
But overall i was very happy with it. I will get another, just waiting for another sale. $199 full price + delivery but they have sales where you can get them for $139 with free shipping. Personally i wouldnt bother with an extended warranty on such a cheap item.
One weird thing with the newer models is they only have 1 HDMI input whereas my old tv had 2. As i use satellite for reception this is a little bit annoying as i also like to watch videos from our handycam.
But far cheaper than sphere and does the same job.
Footnote: Adam, how much for the Axis? Website doesnt say which is always annoying. It wants you to set up an account before seeing the $ ehich means more email spam in future.
