« on: May 01, 2013, 11:31:15 AM »
We have a short list of seccond hand campers to check out in Cairns. One is a "customline" which I've not heard anything about. So... good, bad ugly?

Here's the link to the add.

Looking for honest opinions. Thanks muchly! :-)

I had a look at the description and photos.  Absolute bargain in my opinion but I'm sure you could always negotiate a lower price.

We have the 12' (because we wanted the extra space) and it is a well built trailer.  The tent is one of the best out there.  You may want to consider some awning walls as doesn't appear to come with any but they could be ordered from Customline as it appears to be a current model.

Good luck

That's exactly the same as my 9ft. Excellent quality in canvas and trailer.
That is a bargain price with all those accessories. Check out the Customline website and use there option calculator to see what it all adds up too.

Thanks guys. We had a look at it today. It is a great trailer, well made, and really well looked after. It does however have a few things missing from our "really really want" list like anderson plug, walls for the annexe, stove, 12 volt water pump. Little things of course but they all add up, and when we added up we found it wasn't economical anymore.

Absolutely fabulous trailer though, so I really hope someone less needy than us snaps it up soon!

Customline was on our short list along with Trackabout, Camel and Vacation Campers. It looked like a quality product, particularly the trailer.....only problem was hubby felt he had to stoop a little under the annex and he's not super tall, just under 6 foot- this may just have been the way it was setup in the showroom but that was enough to cross it off our list. We ended up getting a Vacation Camper and are absolutely thrilled with it, but to be honest there wasn't too much between our top 4.
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

Gypsymama, assuming you're in Cairns too, do you have time to make it to the Cairns camping show this weekend? Camping shows are great as most manufactures are within an acre of each other not 3000 k's...  Dave

I'm 6'4" and don't need to even dip my head when entering the gabled annex of our customline tent. Ours is just over 12mo old so maybe this has now been addressed?

I saw a customline at ( i think) Melbourne caravan camping show, looked like a quality peice of kit and im 6'2 and didn't have any trouble. I did have height issue with a few of the on road/ semi on road setups
All my life, I thought air was free...until I bought a bag of chips

I have a Customline walk up camper (V2).  It is a great unit.  I love the enclosed compartments which are great for storing things.  One of the things about the Customline that I like is that you can option them up as much as your budget will allow and still come away without breaking the bank.

On delivery I had a couple of small issues that the Customline boys did a good job fixing even with me being in Melbourne.  The camper has done over 20k in 12 months.  Have taken it from Melbourne to Darwin, Melbourne to Fraser Island and it hasn't missed a beat.  It is dust proof (after you adjust the latches on the compartments correctly).

SWMBO loves the stainless steel xtrail kitchen although the water pump to the sink is a bit noisy.  I will change it over to a quieter one when I can be bothered.  I have also added a diesel heater to it with outlets to the main tent and also the annex.  Great for the Melbourne winter.

Make sure you get a tropical roof for it if it doesn't already have one.  I would get real hot inside without it.

Good luck

Steph

Hi,
I have measured up the awnings on our trailers here in Beenleigh.
Our big walk-up, the Discovery is 2meters for both the over night awning and the full annex.
Our 7X4 off road and the new walk-up, the Adventure is 2meters for the over night awning and 1.9meters for the full annex.
