Drifta help
« on: March 26, 2013, 06:58:12 AM »
Hi there everyone. Well we have just order out first camper trailer - the Crusher from Aussie Jays. We are trying to decide on the kitchen set up. I would like to get the DPOR (being a family of 6 the extra bench space is enticing). However my husband would like to stay with the DSO as it takes up less trailer storage space. We will need to for stretcher beds, BBQ, table, clothes linen etc in the trailer. What would you all recommend.

Thanks for the help

We bought a DSO with our camper 6 years ago. Very happy with that kitchen. However, we have just traded it in on a DPOR and pullout drawer package deal. The DPOR provides more storage within the kitchen and with the pullout drawer makes it easier to get at all the stuff under the bed. Only been away once with the new setup, but so far we are very happy with it.

We have just replaced our Stainless steel DSO style kitchen with a Drifta DPOR.... 2 reasons....It saves us time in packing and un-packing (which was important to us as we are doing longer trips involving more stop/start) and it has saved us space....as all of the other stuff (food, table etc) now packs neatly into the drawers and cupboard and SDSB that we also bought.....

That said, if you are mainly just going to one place and staying, and you are careful about how you pack your stuff, the DSO and extras shouldn't take up anymore than DPOR.

i went with the DPO/Storage Draw Package........I don't have the room for the DPOR, we have a family of five and it all works. we do have additioanl storage between the trailer and the roof top tent for the kids camping gear

the draw is great for accessing everything under the bed as we have no access from the above....it also houses our fridge

the balance of bench space verse storage space is something you will need grappel with

We have the Drifta DPOR Kitchen and SDSB tucker box.  That takes up one side and the length of the trailer hub.  In the other side of the trailer hub we store four large chairs http://enoggeracamping.com.au/products?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&category_id=43&product_id=636 , our table http://www.anaconda.com.au/Product/Camp-and-Hike/Outdoor-Furniture/Sports-Table#90006022.  and two extra large stretchers http://www.anaconda.com.au/Product/Camp-and-Hike/Sleep/Stretchers/Deluxe-Padded-Stretcher-XL  We also have room for all our linen, fishing gear, lights, fan, buckets, shoes, beach toys, beach umbrella, solar panels and grog.  The list goes on.  You would be surprised how much room you have if your pack sensibly.

Our Weber Baby Q fits in the front toolbox on the drawbar.  We used to carry a small esky in the back so guess with a bit of better packing the Weber would fit in the back but it would be getting tight.

We have the DSO and are very happy with it. Leaves a lot of room in the trailer, with a bit of canny packing youll fit it all in. Dont forget you can also put stuff under the tonneau cover. Theres a fair bit of room under there; we have the girl's stretchers and other bits and bobs up there.

I would also highly recommend a storage draw. You get so much more usable space as you can stack stuff without it falling into the kitchen space and don't need to climb to the back of the trailer tub to get the annoying item that always seems to be at the back.

I recomend the DPOR Package deal, i have it and love it...... the slide out storage is huge, and very conveniet...., even the tucker box is a great addition, and we use it every time we head off, great for dry food storage........ and the kitchen set up is excellent, double shelves on the return part of the kitchen is the best thing for keeping things at hand, stack the stuff on the lower shelf, leaving the top shelf for work space!! Buy one, you'll love it too.
You'll be amazed how much you can store away in the kitchen, and the slide out storage! I haven't ever yet had to lift my bed base.......

Go for the largest kitchen you can possibly fit, so the DPOR is likely it. So much of what we pack is food, cooking equipment and corckery, cutlery etc. The DSO is great to use but has little storage space whereas the DPOR has cupboards and drawers, so all the stuiff you're taking is packed exactly where you need it, in the most space effective manner.

If your budget will stretch to it, get the sliding drawer as well, to use on the other side of the camper, that way you just pull the drawer out instead of having to climb into the tub to get your stuff out.

Also, the DSO means everything must be packed towards the front of the tub.

Where are you located? Don't mind you dropping around to have a look at mine. We have the dpor with fridge space and second storage drawer with pantry. We have ours permantly packed, so it should give you an idea of what you can fit.

Is the DPOR an option available we got our tailgate mounted is it DSO after purchase through Luke as we were not sure what we were going to do with kitchen and the DPOR would not fit under the bar across the top at back of trailer I wanted the extra bench space too even though only 2 of us instead of setting up a table.  Other thing is do you have the 12ft tent I am guessing with kids you do so would probably have the room under awning for the bigger kitchen.  On top of our bed under main cover we pack our linen and pillows if bed is already made up we have the drifta bed table and head rest. The awning roof with storm cover still attached and the 2 side walls. Our waffle mats that we put under tent floor and our chairs the flat folding kind.  We dont take our flat plate bbq anymore in the kitchen we store 2 burner gas cooker fry pan and other bits and pieces sink and dish washing things and butane cooker plus plates cutlery etc in the drawers we got the 3 drawers not 1 and shelf.  In the trailer we have ozpig, camp oven, 2 plastic tubs one with gas light torches mozzie coils etc the other for dry food. Shower tent and toilet tent (we have the Jimmy's thunderbox so folds flat). Solar panels mesh walls and the front wall for annex, we have tried to pack so that the things we use most trips are easy out and the things that are occasional or weather dependent like front wall are underneath.  There are more things but that list is pretty long already, back of ute is our bags dog food engel and drink esky, back seat is for dogs ;) which ever you choose you will be very happy with drifta quality, and anything you take if it doesnt get used first few times and has no reason to be in there out it goes

The dso is definately tailgate mounted. Rebecca from aussie jays said they could fit any of the drifta kitchens. I'm leaning towards the DPOR.

Yes getting 12ft and kids room. Also contemplating getting drifta bed rest and bedside table. Are you happy with them?

Yeah ours is the tailmounted I just couldnt remember what letters it was and was too lazy to look it up haha.  Very happy with the table and the head rest probably have used the table more as we put our hats keys phones etc on there at night and torch bottle water if hot the ryobi one plus fan it has saved trying to put things down beside the bed.  We got the lights on the head rest and have used them a few times and are good if you have to get up during the night as they are right there.  We have 9ft tent but the austrack one the table sits on the canvas a bit when set up but is ok and couldnt comment on the current tent for that.

Just throwing my two cents in as well. We've just received a new camper with a new drifta kitchen fridge box package in black stainless. It's a DPOR, so there's loads of bench space, the storage drawer also has the pantry cupboards at the front, which is brilliant.

I set up the kitchen the other day getting ready for our trip this weekend, and I was so impressed with how much I fitted in. Our bed base is fixed, so we rely on the storage drawer for the rest of our trailer space. We haven't been on a trip yet with everything packed in, but so far we have the two camping chairs and stretcher beds packed, I'm also hoping to fit the linen and possibly the travel cot as well. Plenty of room in the drawer, such a good use of the space.

Ive got the DPOR package deal in stainless. Absolutely the best part of my CT. I have 2 kids so have 2 stretcher beds in there. 2 x fold out tables. Fold out clothesline etc etc.
Until you actually see how much storage is available it is hard to imagine. The storage in the DPOR will mean all of the tubs you were going to need to slide into the trailer simply wont be needed. Everything just fits so neatly.

It depends what you take camping, how many kids you have and how much room you need inside the trailer. I had the dso for years and it did the job easy. Personal choice.

We have the DPOR with Fridgebox plus the storage box with Pantry/Drawers at front. For us as a family of 5 i have the kids bunks collapased on the bed at packup and usually just throw the sheets and blankets over the top, pillows go on top as well.
We managed to fit into the space left in the storage box, plus the tool box everything else we need to carry - we also have room on the roof rack plus in the Prado.

Hi Jjw1234

We are a family of 4 and have a Vacation Campers Eco Camper Trailer. We have just ordered the Drifta DPOR kitchen and Bedside Table. We were originally looking at the Kitchen with Fridge package but couldn't compromise on our 85ltr fridge/freezer. So instead we are going back to Vacation Campers to get their fridge slide and have the 85ltr in the CT as well. We just spent the afternoon clearing all the kitchen gear out of the CT in preparation for the Drift and couldn't believe how much space it actually takes up in the CT- not to mention the hour it takes just to set it all up! We are really looking forward to a much quicker set-up when we go away next.

This is how we pack our car/CT-

We take the legs off the kids double stretcher and it lies flat under the bed- saves 20 mins on set-up
All sleeping bags, bedding stays on the CT bed-unless it needs washing
All towels and pillows get vacuum packed in storage bags and go under the tonneau cover
Solar panels go under tonneau cover
Clothes go in the CT in those cheap bags from Crazy Clarks- easy and cheap to replace
Koor Platinum Lighting kit goes in CT
Spare battery in CT
Clothesline in CT
Table and chairs will go in boot of car
2x recliner chairs will go in boot of car
Dry food in boot of car
All other small but necessary stuff goes in the CT
85ltr in boot of car for now

Our aim is to make our set-up as fast and efficient as possible. We try and cull any stuff we don't need after each trip but do find new stuff we need too LOL.

Good luck with your decision. All I can say is that I was originally against a Drifta kitchen and wanted a stainless steel tailgate kitchen. However, it soon became obvious they are one of the best on the market and make a great, well thought out kitchen, for an excellent price. I am looking forward to all the extra bench space that a DPOR provides  :D
